The original thread is locked for me so I've been given the green light for a new one. The old one had a good run, anyway. So I bought and installed some Ameriglo I-dots on my G17. I missed a couple shots in that vid I posted partially because that was my first time with those sights but also I was pushing for speed. Photobuckets being funky but its these: ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41CfY3n3eUL._SY355_.jpgJust the front is tritium, the rear and the front enclosure glow with light exposure.

The old chat smelled like Hoppes. I liked that. So, I squandered an opportunity yesterday to buy either a sporterized Krag (looked like it may have been armory re-profiled as a carbine, but was missing the upper handguard and leaf sight) or a takedown 1897 shotty. Both were about $400. Which was the worse decision, and why?

But how can I civilize 'em without a Krag? These are very serious considerations. Really, I'm mostly interested in both in terms of collecting nifty old historicalish thingamajigs. And they're cool.

Confession -
I have purposely been avoiding anything and everything that even looks like a gun shop/counter.
I have this overwhelming desire to purchase a firearm, and I don't really have a focus as to what I'd get (I'm all over the map between a G42, a G26, a semi auto 308, a decent bolt gun - I'm a wreck), and I really don't NEED any more guns as I've been slacking hardcore on shooting the ones I've got -
But damnit, I want a new toy, if nothing else but to take it out of the safe and fondle it before wiping it down and putting it back in the safe...
I am easily impressionable, but a tightwad with an overwhelming realistic streak.

Yeah, I want something big and stupid. Like a 500S&W or a .40 Super, definitely got to stay away from gun counters until this urge passes.
BTW How much do you think they got paid to pimp this bag?

The got paid a good bit. Whores.
The Krag. I love that rifle. That buttery action doe. That drop one in the trap door? Wow, I like those rifles.
NxP, I vote semi auto 308 or Glack 26.
Finally, why do I get tax stamps? Because I like to go to NFA tracker every day, multiple times, looking at small percentages. Right meow, I'm at 11.52%. For the month it's like 50%. Come on examiners, examine.

Both were about $400. Which was the worse decision, and why? Have to go with the Krag just so long as you don't mind chasing after the parts and ammo. Too bad that Krag wasn't original, worth more and definitely a more rare find. Seems like the vast majority of those were sporterized. Even more so than with the 1903 Springfield. I'd guesstimate that 9 out of 10 of the Krag's I've seen were bobbed/chopped. It's gotten so that it lent itself to being sporterized to such a degree that the original ones with the full stock look a bit weird. Would be cool to have a project re-militarizing that Krag, always meant to do that with my 1903. I have this overwhelming desire to purchase a firearm, and I don't really have a focus as to what I'd get (I'm all over the map between a G42, a G26, a semi auto 308, a decent bolt gun - I'm a wreck), and I really don't NEED any more guns as I've been slacking hardcore on shooting the ones I've got -But damnit, I want a new toy, if nothing else but to take it out of the safe and fondle it before wiping it down and putting it back in the safe...I am easily impressionable, but a tightwad with an overwhelming realistic streak. Between those I'd go with a G26 over the G42 (can't believe I didn't get a 26 before now although I do like the 42) and a decent semi .308 (H&K 91/PTR, FAL or SCAR) over a bolt. Just an opinion, but cast my vote for the G26 and an H&K/PTR.

I do feel a little better knowing that I can see nicer looking Krags for not much more on Gunbroker here and there. Not like I missed the last one ever.
Still...

B35 & GBM - you both are on track with my thinking. I really need to get off my ass and sell/trade off some of my more "useless" guns for a G26. I keep thinking about putting my 3953 up as trade fodder, but the single stack metal Smiths aren't common and the damn thing just shoots lights out - even with a 8.5# DA trigger. Still, my G17 has more 2x+ rounds, nearly the same weight when loaded, and is so close in size it's comical - and it's a full size not a compact. That metal Smith does carry nice, though. That was always my one slight gripe with the Block - even a little bit of profiling would have made it amazing, but at the end of the day it's a tool not a fashion piece, and the Austrian Grenade seems to work just fine.
As fo' 308 I'm patiently waiting for GBM to get all HNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG over something around the grand mark so I can keep Momma from placing most of my belongings in the garage (dog house is too small and he get's my side of the bed anyway I've been told).
I should call up a few shops and see if any sucker has traded in their G26 on a shiney new 43 etc...
Edit -
B35 you've got a G26 now? Good heavens I'm even further behind than I thought.... I'll never be one of the cool kids at this rate.

I'm taking my PTRs to a gunshow this weekend. I'm attempting to transform them into a 12" PTR pistol and SBR it. Be like a HK51 clone. Haut. Do want.
If interested, contact me. I'm thinking $750 at the show, one of y'all and I'd go lower. I'm also taking an SKS. Never shot it.
