B35 & GBM - you both are on track with my thinking. I really need to get off my ass and sell/trade off some of my more "useless" guns for a G26. Kind of what I've been doing this last year. Taking a hard look at what I actually shoot the most of, selling the ones that I don't really ever take out and getting all the accessories, optics, holsters, sling/sling mounts and parts on-in-for them that I've always meant to get to finish them off. Kind of pathetic when I've owned a gun for 12 years and I don't have a quality holster for it or I keep an AR barebones in favor of buying yet another AR. I'm getting all the regular shooters exactly how I want them. I'll have fewer in number, but they'll be all finished. Probably wouldn't sell that one then. Sounds like you're pretty attached to it. Maybe throw $20-$40 in your sock drawer a week by making your lunch instead of eating Subway or making coffee at home and taking it instead of getting it at the local coffee shop or gas station or something of that nature. When I was a bachelor I once ate Top Ramen for a month to buy an FAL. Probably couldn't get away with that now (my wife would murder me with whatever gun I got), but I can skip little small stuff in order be able to afford something without digging into savings. Yeah, not to long ago. Couple months ago when I sold that 6.8 SPC. I'm at 5 Glocks now. A 2nd Gen G19, 3rd Gen G20SF, 4th Gen G17, a G42 and a 3rd Gen G26. There's a pic of them in the pic thread, but they just look like...Glock's. Less than some guys on here, but a decent start in becoming a Glockaholic. Shoulda kept that G32 I used to have, kinda miss that thing. Should've gotten a 26 forever ago, whole lot easier to conceal (especially in the summer months) and I got a few 12 rd mags for it from Midway +1 in the pipe and so it's basically the same capacity as half the mags I have for the BHP's and then I have G17 reloads. Only other one I really want to get is a G21SF, then besides some grip stippling and changing out the sights on two of them I'm done, no...really...I swear.

Is it wrong that I already take leftovers every day and buy bulk coffee from Aldi's? Nah, I dig what you're saying. I actually had enough for the G26 and then the wife needed new tires all the way around. If I really wanted it I could go down and buy it, but I've got that whole leave some cash in the hole for emergencies thing in my brain, which has actually bailed us out more than a few times as a family. I almost wish I could go back to the month of top ramen for toys - maybe it's the rose colored glasses of time and forgetfulness, but I swear for as tough as some of those times were, they seemed almost better than it is now. I'll buy it. I will. And when I do, so help me all you MF'ers are gonna have to listen to me strut it's picture around this place like a proud new papa....

What is the deal with shotguns?
Some of the old ones are pretty cool, and in the back of my head, I think it'd be fun to tacticool up an 870 or something...but I'm not a shotgun guy. I don't like to shoot them all that much.
But boomsticks are still cool...I really don't understand what goes on in my brain sometimes.

If you have a couple quality gats to protect family, self and home that's all you honestly *need*. All the rest is just want and icing on the cake, so keeping a nest egg readily available is more important than yet another gun. Prolly not a standard gun forum thought of ' buy both, moar moar moar', but it's (IMO) the truth. It's all good. Everybody does that I think (myself included). It's like that dude over at ZS that was always posting a pic of that Mossberg 590 to the point it became a joke. ' Have you seen my shotgun yet?' --- I do feel a little better knowing that I can see nicer looking Krags for not much more on Gunbroker here and there. Not like I missed the last one ever. Naw, plenty of good ones still around. Won't be the last one you see. Just looked on gunbroker for Krag 30/40's and there's a gang of them slightly above that price range that are sporterized, but with sights and handguards. For the house if it's a long gun a carbine with a light replaced a shotgun for me awhile back, but it's still a fairly low cost effective alternative. I still love me some shotguns, but it's more for dove hunting and clays. If you haven't tried it much trap and skeet is addictive as hell and I highly recommend it, especially sporting clays. That's one of the ways I got my wife into it. She doesn't like rifles much cause of the noise, but hand her a gauge and throw some clays in the air and she's in her element.

As a survival gun, I think shotguns are great just because they can take all sorts of game. What I don't like is the low capacity, slow shot to shot times and heavy recoil. Fine for an ambush but self defense, I think they are fine if, there is a low threat level. Multiples I think the recoil and shot to shot times would put you seriously behind the ball.

I thought I was doing pretty good getting her to shoot somewhat proficiently with a semi-auto shotgun and a pistol. She's not going to do drills or work on quicker reloads, so if it's going to get done it'll be with what's in her pistol and shotgun. The shot-to-shot times and recoil isn't super horrible on a semi (not as good as a carbine, but better than a pump shotgun), but the capacity sucks (5+1).

I like shotguns and have two 12ga pumps. My tactical 870 project was a lot of fun and cheap to boot, there's a few pics of it floating around here somewhere. Is it the bestest gun in the whole wide world? Nah, probably not. But should do the trick. I feel comfortable running it and my esstac card helps keep it fed. I do think 00 buck is just about the most effective load that is reasonable to use as far as "stopping power", though.
IDK, sometimes I carry a G17 topped off with 3 spare mags and others I'll carry a 5 shot snub with no reload. Depends how ninja/paranoid I'm being that day.

I really wanted my maternal Grandfather's old Browning Auto-5 12 gauge. He bought it back in '46 as an "I survived WWII" gift to himself, and it was the first gun he ever owned that would fire more than twice before you had to reload. It still shoots, but the finish is pretty much gone and the bare metal has a light grey patina, and the wood furniture is worn to a dull blackish color. But, I'm the third oldest grandchild and got third pick, and one of my older cousins had already claimed it. Oh well, I did get my paternal Grandfather's Inland M1A1 "ranch/dairy farm" carbine, so I can't really complain. ETA: I ended-up picking my Grandpaw's Marlin 39M .22 lever gun. It was the one most of grandkids had to learn to shoot first, before we could move-up to a .30-30 deer rifle, and it's in surprisingly good shape for an early '70s production gun.

Shotguns are very satisfying to shoot. Something about that heavy recoil and canon-like boom. Also, it is fun to mess with someone who is plinking at a bunch of carefully arranged cans, by firing some bird shot at the cans and knocking them all over when they pause to reload.

Thanks fellas. You make a lot of sense.
I "gloaned" (gave/loaned) my beater of a Maverick 88 to my bro-in-law; hardly ever shot the darned thing; but I keep feeling that itch, and couldn't quite understand why. I saw that the local pawn shop has a couple of old Remington Model 11s sitting around; that could do...

So I've been carrying a gun at work again. Bad idea? Probably, because I got fired from my last job for exactly that. I switched to night shift and don't exactly work in a nice area so it's a calculated risk. Im not carrying on body, though. It's in a locked, non gun-like safe inside of a backpack that is also locked at the zipper inside of my work locker (that mgmt has the combo for). In my AO this is legal just against company policy. I have a couple months bill money set aside in case I'm found out.
Thoughts?
It's a 2" Taurus M85 .38 5-shot with 125gr +P Golden Saber, for you fellow nerds.

Tony, IMO (and MO only) concealed means exactly that - ain't no one supposed to know it's there regardless of where it is. My first question would be how did you get fired from the first job for carrying if no-one was supposed to be the wiser of it's existence. My second question is do you feel comfortable with the gun not on your person and in an area where someone else potentially has the ability to access it.
I work in a gun-free (aka target rich) enviroment. I hate it, but it is what it is. Could I carry? Not on me, guns and scrubs don't work so hot together, but I could put it in my locker which is locked with my lock and not the companies. Could that bite me in the ass? You bet - example, we lost a chiller feed line that just happened to go over the entire locker room dumping all kinds nasty into everyone's lockers. Security came through and CUT off all the locks and started dumping contents - oh there were some pissed off folks, let me tell you - and bagging things like cellphones, wallets, etc for those that weren't on campus that day. Had something that went bang been found you'd have been screwed.
In examining my everyday routine, I think the best place for a CC would be my lunch bag. It's always near, in a watched and close access fridge, ain't no one mess with my food - eva, and when done I've got it under my desk in a locked drawer. Something like a small, flat 380 in a hidden pocket would go invisible unless you knew exactly what and where you were looking.
Either way in a few months I'm going to be transferring anyway so the whole routine will be changing so I'll re-evaluate then.
What I'm getting at is - is the risk worth the result? No offense, but I've got 3 people that count on me to make sure dinner's hot, beds aren't rain soaked, and dance class is on Wed. YMMV.

The old linemen and engineers at work often talk about how "back-in-the-day" they'd keep a pistol in the glove box or a shotty behind the seat of their company truck. Or how the old head warehouseman kept a shotty loaded with rock salt in his office for use against copper thieves....then again, the CEO back then would often show-up to the job site with either a bottle of hooch or a case of beer when making his "safety inspections".

My employer prohibits firearms--I don't like it, but it does make sense, in a lot of ways, to keep things that go "bang" away from things that go "boom." That aside, I do like my job, and it does have much better benefits than my last job (pay among them), so I'm with nxp on risk vs reward.

Speaking of an "overwhelming desire to purchase a firearm", I've got a hankering for a CZ 75 SP-01.... .....and not just because Miss June in the Dillon Precision calendar is duel-wielding a pair of them.
