I'll try to fix those when I get home with photobucket. No promises but I'll try.
LOL, I love that pic. I imagine all sort of shit happening before and after.
"See these two fuckers? Yeah, I fxin' to water board the shit out of them."
"See, they were in good working order when I found them."

Mall ninja time! TAG Rampage PC with 2 TAG mag pouches setup as speed-reload pouches (and a New York reload Glock ). Most mags being worn on my battle belt:

Here's my current battle belt: Again, meant for a day at the range. I am planning on updating it by slimming it down to 2 rifle mags, 2 pistol mags, and a smaller FAK... if I ever have fun money again

Chest Rigz, beeyatches! My favorite, TAG Gladiator: Currently, this is my SHTF supplement to the battle belt. I need to upload some pics to photobucket from this rig in use, but, here is the workhorse: TAG Rifleman chest rig. Carries all sorts 'O whoop ass! Mine is jerry-rigged with a SoTech padded harness that allowed me to carry a TAG hydration carrier: ...I know I use that pic alot, but it is fucking awesome. Oh, and the 2 stumpy funky 40mm rounds are buckshot! Surprise, cock-bag! edit: so this pic doesn't show the SoTech harness, whoops. Anywoo, going back to the reload pouch conversation...the 2 mags with magpuls would have been situated in my left-most magpouch with the flap tucked in--i.e. speed reload pouch. I never had to use this getup in a gunfight, but after a few trips to the range I was fucking up reloads because some mags had magpuls, while others did not. I situation I remedied soon thereafter.

Never got to shoot the 40mm buckshot. They told us about it but didn't let use shoot anything but chalk rounds. Very fun though.

A bit off topic, but Omega had your unit not been issued the MOLLE gear during your first deployment? If they were, I am stunned, STUNNED that you were allowed to use old-school ALICE gear just because you thought it would work better. I'm trying to wrap my head around what my company gunny would have said if I would have showed up to run a training evolution in ALICE gear or an older LBV while everybody else had their MOLLE on. Was there just a more 'set up your gear the way you want and use it if it works for you' attitude on downrange deployments?
When we first got our MOLLE issue, the power's that be in my unit were very intent that everybody set their stuff up the same, which kind of defeated the purpose of having modular gear, IMO. After awhile, most guys in leadership positions didn't really care how your gear was set up, with minor exceptions (FAKs were all supposed to be in the same place on your gear or in your ruck, for example).

After awhile, most guys in leadership positions didn't really care how your gear was set up, with minor exceptions (FAKs were all supposed to be in the same place on your gear or in your ruck, for example). Oh yeah, we had the Molle stuff issued, but thankfully the politics and powers that were during that time where permissive of non-issue gear (within limits). Not all of my time was like that. During one MEU-SOC deployment out of Oki we had to dog and pony the whole time, with everyone's gear setup exactly the same! But yeah, that 2005 deployment, some doods wore chest rigs and vests (remember Blackhawk! ?), hell, my platoon sergeant wore a TAG Rifleman chestrig that was issued from the armory. However, that was a crazy deployment, 7 months in Ramadi--after the first few weeks shit was so intense that gunny and first sergeant just let us be gunfighters. Shit was real and raw then (maybe the Chris Kyle movie will highlight some of that...we were in the neighborhood together). Depends on the unit and who's in charge at the time. The only time I was questioned about my gear, our CO asked my platoon sergeant why I wasn't wearing a camelbak...plt. sergeant responded something to the effect that I was keeping it real with 2 canteens on my Alice gear--and I was on the verge of insanity. The 2008 stuff I was far off the reservation doin' my thang

Well, that makes sense. Kudos to leadership for knowing what stuff is important and what stuff isn't so much when the metal is really hitting the meat.

Sorry for blowing up the LBE thread... I actually found it kind of informative. With chest rigs and plate carriers I'm like a new AR-15 owner, confronted with way too many options. So Omega, if you had to just pick one plate carrier to buy and be done with it what would you buy and how would you set it up (pouch placement)?

So Omega, if you had to just pick one plate carrier to buy and be done with it what would you buy and how would you set it up (pouch placement)? Right now, at this point in my life, if I were to set up a plate carrier rig...I keep going back to the SKD PIG system. Low profile and modular. 4-6 mags using Esstac pouches with the kydex inserts, no more than 2 pistol mags, and a low profile hydration carrier. I am hot and cold on admin pouches. To often I see them there just to be there. I have been that guy with a $50 admin pouches and $0.50 notebook in there. Pointless. I do like the idea of a pistol riding high where an admin pouch would go, comes in handy for driving I would still keep a battle belt with pistol, 2-4 pistol mags, 1-2 rifle mags, dump pouch, IFAK, and a get-the-fuck-off-me knife. A multi-tool and light needs to be somewhere, too; but, I am not going to flame either belt or PC carry--operator preference, there. A plate carrier (or even chest rig) loaded up is fucking heavy, throws off your center of gravity, and changes how you shoot. Keep it simple. Think really hard about GP pouches, they tend to fill up with shit you don't need. All that said, based on everything I have used, a battle belt should have what you need to keep you in the fight should that be all you have and the PC/chest rig brings the ass. Opinion subject to change

Moar!!! Here is the TAG Rifleman chest rig in action. Probably one of the best all-round chest rigs developed. The SAW drum pouches on the side worked great for 40mm, smoke, and nvgs...but you can really load it down, especially if you run it to mag capacity at 12 mags! Note, below the push-to-talk button on my left side you can see the butt of my M9. This chestrig has a "holster" sewn behind the SAW pouch. I had mentioned this in the military sidearm thread, but I often just shoved my pistol in velcro flaps or whatever and then dummy-corded so it wouldn't fall out while doing high-speed shit (like when I nearly lost it while fast-roping out of a CH-53 ). Also, on my left side, you can see where I have a mag pouch set up as a "speed reload" with the flap tucked-in and magpul equipped mags.
