So is anyone buying anything before the Nov 2016 presidential election just in case a gun banner gets elected?
I'm concentrating on mags (specifically Glock) and ammo for the most part, but I did get a PTR-91 and 20 steel and aluminum mags, I bought a couple stripped lowers for my two other nephews, I'm getting a Glock .45 ACP (either the 21SF or the 41) and maybe a 9mm AR PCC.

A second EAA Witness 10mm. 20-30 mags for same (to be split with my existing one) 2-4 AR-10 type lowers 40 Mags for same^ 40 PMAGS for my SBRs a few of PMAGS Drums.
AMMO. Lots of AMMO.

Would like to have a couple of those drums.
$123 for a single Magpul 60 rd drum (from Midway) is about what I'd spend for 10 thirty rd Lancer mags though. Know of where they're less?

Anything specifically that Hillary or Bernie are planning on doing as far as gun stuff? I realize they hate the thought of anybody but their bodyguards being armed, just not sure if they have formally discussed what they plan to do (banning certain types of guns or mags, insane taxes on ammo, etc.). That would likely drive my purchases... I do struggle with the desire for more magazines. I have no realistic need for any more, but damn, it sure is tempting to always buy JUST ONE OR TWO MORE... isn't it? Seriously, how many is enough? I've got dozens of AR mags, most of them new in the package. Same traffic with Glock mags. I don't really NEED any more as far as personal use. I get that mags are disposable, but they aren't that disposable. I'm still using mags that fell of supply trucks from my jarhead days, and they work fine (and who knows how many billion rounds were through them before I liberated them from their oppressors?). Are you guys buying with an eye towards resale? Also, any future purchases of firearms would likely be of the 'non-scary' variety, like a good bolt-action in a heavier caliber than .223. To my knowledge, if the gun isn't evil and black it doesn't scare most hoplophobes - - a bolt action rifle is not on their radar and would likely not be involved in a ban. I could be wrong, though. ALSO, ammo. Ammo is like beer, you can never have too much around. But, again, how much is it realistic to store. 10,000 rounds? It's not like the stuff goes bad, and I would eventually shoot up 150,000 rounds I suppose, but having that much money tied up in ammo? Ugh. I struggle.

Ugh. I struggle. If you had bought 150,00 rounds of .22LR in 2004, and sold them in 2014 or 2015, how much profit would you have made? I'm not saying set yourself up to be a profiteer, but I imagine a spam can of 7.62x39 might might make for a hell of a nice trade to a guy who needed ammo in a drought when you couldn't find ammo for love or money.

No, that's a totally legit reason to stack mags and ammo deep, no doubt. Couldn't agree more. I actually considered parting with some Pmags during the last great magazine panic when I realized I could sell them locally for $50-75 dollars apiece and I had paid $15 apiece. But at that point I was all like "ZOMG MUSN'T SELL MAGAZINES THEY ARE THE PRECIOUS!!!!!!"
Not profiteering, just planning ahead, IMO.

Seriously, how many [mags] is enough? I've always thought that 30 per gun was about right. That way even if mags get lost at class or during a range trip or get broken I still have enough and plus I have enough to give my son later on and for my 3 nephews and 2 nieces. Without mags semi's are just single shots. During the AWB some pistol mags were selling for around $120 apiece. That's insane. Once I saw that I promised myself I'd never get caught short again if the 2004 date came along and they hadn't renewed it. Couldn't believe that bullshit was actually allowed to sunset (which is amazing in and of itself, I figured that it would be a slam dunk to get renewed). Although it was passed in the first place I'm thankful to whoever stuck that provision in. The number of firearms and mags greater than 10 rds in America is now astronomical in comparison to the early 90's. With the number of younger people who now own guns good luck putting that genie back in the bottle. No, I think you're right. To them it isn't about facts (because if so they wouldn't be going after rifles at all), it's about feelings. If it looks scary then that cowardice kicks in. I'm probably getting a .338 Lapua next year. Really want to get into longer range shooting. Yeah, without ammo guns are pretty useless. I need more 9mil and .223/5.56, but don't we all?

The only bolt actions I can see them becoming frowny faced on are the large military carts like the Barrett 50. Mayyyyyybe the 338L just based on LEO/Mil desire to move to that niche, but 50 for sure. Granted there aren't a lot of them out there anyway (not to mention average owners aren't interested in a gun that can't be shot at most ranges and costs over 5 bucks to go bang once), but I could see that happening.
Low cap mags would definitely be back on the table again. I could see them heading back to a 10rnd max for everything and then try to weasel in verbage that would make owners of existing mags pin/fix their current high caps. If that does happen, I'd likely move to the 30S over my 9mm's, because why not 45?
Popular/NATO ammo will always be slightly short now outside of Fudd/specialty carts or mass online orders. Just a sign of the times moving forward I'm thinking.
Dannus, I'm sort of in your boat - I like to keep around 15-20 mags (with guts to rebuild a few) around per gun, and I'm usually only abusing 2-3 when I'm at the range and they're well marked for that purpose. I'm comfortable with a couple thousand rnds of my favorite calibers, knowing if I have to buy more I can, but I'm not shooting as often as I should to blow through that amount in the event of another "Great Stupid". It's become a lot easier now that I've started to standardized on Glock and the AR platform.

I'm feelin' pretty content as far as gunz and mags. Noticed the other day that I'm down to about 2500 rounds of .22LR.....I don't see the prices for rimfire ammo getting any better, so I will probably drop my pants, bend over, and get some more sometime before November.

Gun banners want to ban all guns. There are no guns "not scary enough" to escape their attentions. They are supreme hypocrites. They will own, control, and participate in the illegal sale of guns, while promoting more and more draconian gun laws under the rationale of public safety.
ETA I am just buying some ammo. I am planning so sell off about 30-50% of my mags if prices get crazy. I got stacks of em.

I'm actually pretty good as far as .22 ammo goes for the most part. I've been buying pretty steadily since .22's been trickling back into stock. The price here for the bulk plinker type stuff has been holding in the .06 to .08 cents area although I found some for .05 cents around yesterday. Been able to usually find it in 3 out of 5 trips. Gonna kick that into higher gear for myself though as I've also been supplying not only my father in law, but two nieces and three nephews.

I would like to make a bulk purchase at .05 cents a round. I probably won't buy in any quantity until I can find 10 or 20K at that price.
