Interesting, and terrifying stuff. In what ways could one prep for this? Realistically? Be in a position (financial/employment wise) where you could go into extended "lock-down" or "self quarantine" at the first signs of an epidemic. Even that isn't a sure bet. Aside from that? Gloves, masks, hand sanitizers. Bleach. Lots and lots of bleach. Religious levels of dedication to washing your hands. Changing clothing (including footwear) prior to entering your home. (Light levels of decon). If you can manage it, air filtration and over-pressurization of your home (not really needed to stop bio unless the bad guys are spraying something, but it will help keep insect vectors out). Control of your food and water supplies (to prevent tainted/contaminated food and water). Avoid crowds and contact with strangers. Keep you r children and pets at home. Stay the hell away from hospitals, clinics, doctors offices, or anywhere else that the ill are likely to go seeking help. Really...if you avoid exposure by avoiding people you've probably cut your risk of infection by 95%. Oh, throw in very good pest control measures (flies, mosquitoes, rats, an all sorts of bugs). Prevent the vectors from reaching you and you prevent the bacterium/virus from coming into contact with you. But probably big step forward is being sure you and all your family/loved ones/group members have just about every vaccination they can talk their docs into giving them. That's one of the things I like about my job; I'm vaccinated against most of the diseases that would interest the terrorists as weapons. |

This is what makes me want a "panic room"/bunker...a metal/concrete room with little chance for pests, etc. to get in. Simple set-up, supplies clean and organized.

You might be suprised how well yoi can keep stuff oit just by overpressurization, given a reasonably decent fit of doors and windows. Assuming your air pump stays operational. |

Well, a "State of Emergency" has been declared in Ferguson, Missouri.
And the county Sheriff (or whatever they call them up there) has taken over "command" of the city. But no curfew has been announced, so this may be another long and....interesting....night.

Harris was shot multiple times and critically wounded by police after he fired on an unmarked police vehicle, they said this week.
Harris’s family and friends denied that he had a weapon. But police said that he was armed with a 9mm Sig Sauer pistol that had been reported stolen last year.
The surveillance video was recorded outside the Solo Insurance Services on West Florissant Avenue just before the shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m., not far from where protesters gathered.

I think it's kind of silly. Sure, protect property but you're not on patrol. IF you're sitting in front of or around your friends business, or any stranger that asks, ok, but walking around? Nah, silly. They have the right to to that but meh, not for me.
I would sit in a friends, associates or anyone that asked for help business but no way I'm patrolling. Too much risk, too much liability.
If I did, I certainly wouldn't have it out in the open, close but not open carry. I'd have concealed pistol, fo' sho'.
