Bear in mind I'm not really a prepper just would like a little insurance... Aren't you, Tony? Aren't you? If you're going for the one gallon per person per day, just run the numbers accordingly as far as bottled water quantity. I have one lab-mix and one terrier-mix dog (basically one medium size and one small size), and they burn through about a bowl a day if it's hot. So, about a quart per day would take care of both of them if I wasn't letting them run amok and get overheated. In reality, though, I think you and your girlfriend could get by on 3-4 bottles per day as far as drinking water. If you are doing hard core work in the heat, that won't be enough. But hunkering down due to a short-term disaster or utility outage of some type? A 24 pack per person per week would likely be plenty. They are easy to throw in your car if you need to bug out for some reason as well. For hygiene or food prep you would need more water, obviously. My work-around for those issues is to mostly store 'prep' food that is just heat and eat (or just eat, no heat), no water added, and use alcohol gel and wet wipes for hygiene. Minimizes non-drinking water usage. ... or pick up a few food grade kydex drums plus a handpump, fill with treated water, and seal. BTW, I belive you can buy dry(powder) bleach from pool supply stores. It shouldn't loose potency as long as it's in dry form.

I've got two of the 55 gallon food grade drums set up exactly like that, but have the benefit of a basement in my home. I don't know Tony's living arrangement, but think he lives in an apartment. Might be difficult to do in an Apt. I've investigated what is essentially powdered pool chlorine as well, but never got past the 'Hmmmm, interesting idea..." phase.

Not to admonish anyone but we are preppers. We look forward to predict what we may need, what works and build skills/buy gear that will facilitate the future. The people you see on TV who are moonbat loons are not preppers. They're moonbats. They have a fixation and apply the incorrect skills and gear to very simple problems.
A short list of big things you need as a prepper with a good head on their shoulders to avoid future disasters. A. Health/fire/auto insurance. B. First aid kit, fire extingushers, and a good tool set to repair simple things on your vehicle. See how these two things go togther?
A. Good tires on your car. B. Good drving habits.
How many people do you know that are worried about a super volcano but haven't changed their oil in their car in a year, bald tires and eats at McDonalds every day. They're not preppers because they're avoiding the most predictable and likely things to arise and focused on the Black Swan event. It's sheer stupidity and some weird fantasy land that I will not be part of.
Will the Summer of Rage happen? I don't know. There are a bunch of angry malcontents, I hope it doesn't but it's a good exercise to review your preps. Will it get hot this summer, yes. Is water important to human life, oh, very much so. Therefore the prudent human has a back up plan to the govt. provided water.
Humans who've survived have always prepared for the future. Get that 401K, have insurance, get a water filter and step back, review what your doing. It's not crazy on any level to prepare in multiple ways for the future.

Jack Spirco over at TSP has an awesome threat matrix graphic. I'll track it down. Basically, it says as the magnitude of the event increases (as in the number of people it affects) the odds of it happening decrease. Conversely, as the number of people affected decreases, the odds increase.
Mile wide asteroid hitting earth? Would affect a LOT of people. Odds of it happening on any given day? Really really low.
Someone losing their job? Affects them and their family, and ripple effects to anyone he owes money to. Odds of it happening to me and my family? It has happened. Twice.
Me having a flat tire on the way to work? Would only affect me, but it very well could happen. And as old as my tires are, is likely before summer is out.
Plan and prepare for the most likely stuff. Bad storms, water main bursts forcing a "no drink" order, job loss, broken bones, someone smacks into your car because they saw a funny meme on ZS...

•Situational Awareness (and keeping your head out of the clouds and/or your face outa your phone) •Stay outa crowds for the most part •First aid kit of some sort nearby and medical knowledge Doesn't even have to be some nutcase gone off his rocker or some terrorist, occasionally drunks, diabetics with low blood sugar, someone having a heart attack or stroke or older folks who can't drive all that well plow into crowds or through buildings.

It looks like we're going to play the "remove him from the history books", because of something they did back when it was normal to do it, so can we relabel Mandela as a terrorist?

This "Confederate Flag" (read; Confederate Battle Banner) flap is beyond ridiculuous...the FACTS has been so misconstrued through the years, it's easy to misinterpret...
Think about it...who learned that Abe Lincoln was a republican in middle school? Oh, they left that out...
Who learned that MLK was a pseudo republican?
Who was taught that the slaves were imported into NORTHERN ports, and THEN sold to Southern AND northern slave holders?
Who learned that that the north FORCED the South to fire the first shot to justify their agression?
Who learned about "Grant's march to the sea"...raping, burning, and pillaging his way into the Southern Heartland because he knew he could not face E. Lee in battle (and have a hope of winning)?
Who knew that Lincoln ORDERED Grant to take this course of action?
Who learned that Lincoln owned slaves, AND, that slavery was "made an issue" to win popular support for the war?
Anybody learn that most KKK members were active members of the Democratic party???
Oh, they left that out of the history books?
How convienent...
"No matter how torn or tattered, the truth is still the truth..."
You may see media-heads state this that and the other about how the "War of Northern Agression" went down, but, you will never hear a history professor protect it, because "the truth does not need to wear clothes"...
