This may get interesting active shooter in CharlestonFrom the local news website: "CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department is looking for a suspect following a shooting at the Emmanuel AME church in downtown Charleston Wednesday night. CPD officials describe the suspect as a white male, 21 years old, slender/small build, grey sweat shirt, blue jeans and clean shaven. Police say the shooting happened on 110 Calhoun Street around 9 p.m. A helicopter is assisting law enforcement on the scene. A big police presence was seen at the Bethel AME Church on Calhoun Street. The FBI and the Chaplain service are on the scene. CPD officials have not released any information yet on any victims. Pictures and video from the scene show the fire department and ambulance crews have responded. At least six ambulances were spotted in the area of the shooting. Copyright 2015 WCSC. All rights reserved. " ETA: Reports are of 8 people shot in the church. ETA2: Hopefully it turns out to be a white supremacist who went off his meds. What a jackass. I expect the race baiters to descend which is absolutley not what's necessary because they will drown out the rational voices. This why race baiting is so wrong, well, one reason. It pushes people to the sides into group opposed to each other. It causes all side to look at each other with suspicion and malice. It gives justification to the asshats for them to "react" to the pressures on them and between them.
I expect more racial tension. I expect some gun control push. Jesus, people really need to pull back and assess what their saying and doing. Calm the fire, don't stoke it.
ETA I also expect that this guy told people what he was going to do. I also expect he was known to be dangerous and off. There will be at least 10 people who expected this from him yet not a one contacted local law enforcement.

This morning's news, FBI is investigating it as a hate crime (of course, no facts yet). Also released a pic of the guy on the local news station.
What a cluster. Hope they nab the guy quick before stupidity and assumptions take over.

I built an actually concealable AR pistol, stocked up on med supplies and bought a half case of JHPs. Plus I've been training with my body armor.

Hopefully nothing happens in your neck of the woods. Gas mask or medical masks? I used to think that stuff was a bit much before Ferguson when whole areas were saturated with CS gas. - Just what we need, cue the crazy white guys to add gas to the fire. |

We've never had any deadly incidents at any of the churches in my area, but about 10 years ago our Pastor decided he wanted some armed members on site during Sunday & Wednesday services, and whenever the kids are there for AWANA or Upward Basketball & Soccer.
The Police Chief is one of our Deacons, so he and a few other LEO/EMS church members developed a security plan and vetted and trained a couple dozen members.

I do have 1 gas mask but no useable filters though. It's Finnish IIRC and has a 40mm NATO filter adapter. It's in good shape, airtight and good seal but I'd have to shave my beard to use it. Id like to get maybe 6 filters and a mask for my girlfriend. Anyone got a source on these? I bought some medical masks and gloves with that recent medical supply purchase, but I think they're just basic infection control type masks. Not sure how effective they'd be. I doubt anything will happen around here. It's fairly populated I suppose but it's possible. My little area is predominately white blue collar so I don't really see any rioting happening. Gang activity is minimal but like most places its creeping in bit by bit. We're also on I5 which runs from LA to Seattle so we get a lot of people from California who look to me to be Hispanic gang members. If it was up to me they'd stay the fuck out but hey what are you gonna do. |
