Meh. 10.5 is as short as I'd go (and I did). I've seen too many pistol length gas tubes create problems with 556 where a carbine length one would run solid. Might be fine for the pressure wave on a 300BLK, but doesn't give me the warm fuzzies on 556. Definitely a 75yrd and under gun, though - and I've seen some weird keyholing with some ammo out of it at 100yrds. I did appreciate the article, though, I didn't know someone had made a "blast shield" for the YHM screw on FH. I think I've got one of those FH's in the junk box somewhere, so that would be a great addition to my boat anchor (er, AR pistol).

Im likely going to buy that upper PSA has that's 8.5" with a keymod rail for $269. Just as a little project/fun gun. It will serve as a concealed companion on the road if it proves itself. Just ordered an AIM NiB carrier group (dont hate) just to see what all the fuss is, plus I like it aesthetically. Got a pistol tube on the way as well. All I need now is an LPK and an upper.
Flirted with .300 in my head but not worth the hassle right now to start loading it plus I'm already sitting on quite a bit of .223 anyway so fuck it. I plan on having 3-4 uppers for this pistol lower anyway..gonna do some experimenting later with 9mm, 300 and maybe 6.8.
As far as ammo I have 69gr SMK and Prvi 75gr OTM so at first I'll use those. Seeing some nice gel testing with Gold Dot 55gr..kinda wanting to try that.

I still want to know definitively if it's ok to shoulder non braced AR pistols. And if it's okay to hold a pistol with two hands...

Lowkey, never heard of a bolt doing that, hope it works itself out. Also, hard to tell but I think your MBUS sights may be on backwards. I swapped bolts/BCG around and the malf stays with the same upper so it's not the BCG. It's not the gas tube (as far as I can tell). I'm wondering now how decent CMMG's QC is on their barrels..... Oh well. I has to fly back to work, so the problem is still unresolved. Seeing as you can retract the bolt using the old school "slam the butt onto the bench while pulling on the charging handle" trick I just left pater familia with instructions to take it to a decent local smith if the problem didn't resolve after another 200 rounds. Regarding the MBUS, you're right. I have no earthly idea why but every single time, without fail, I install those front sights backwards. Every. Damn. Time. I've done it on a few dozen builds so far....

I think I missed your post, you're having issue with you 300 build? What is happening? I have a 8" 300 cmmg barrel and a voodoo 5.56 7.5" barrel both with pistol length system s and I've yet to have a malf. I'll go a few pages back.

Ok read the post, so the bolt wants to stay shut. You've swapped bcg s so it's not that. The only other thing that can be wrong is there is something wrong with the barrel extension. The head space maybe to tight. Send it back to cmmg. Chamber maybe to too tight too.

Longer the better but for a specific purpose, 7.5" has a few.

The only one I trust to keep flash down is the vortex. The rest are rediculous. Maybe a AAC but the vortex is beyond proven.

Spike's Barking Spider is fun (I admit, the name sold it), but it's big, heavy, could be cheaper, and gets awfully hot--by the way, good reminder to wear gloves when you go shooting!
