Dear Hive-Mind, I have a quandry. My beloved bride has expressed a wish, an undeniable wish, to purchase for me a firearm in the $1K range as a birthday present. My problem is that I can't think of any off the shelf firearm that I want, and she wants to buy me a complete gun...not parts. As an example of her thinking, she thought an MP5/SP5K (semi) would look spiffy. She's no doubt go for one with the giggle switch if they were in her quoted price range. Me, I'm open to anything...cowboy action to space age cool kid stuff. Ideas? Marlin 1894SS 357 mag. big loop 16.5 threaded barrelThat's definitely got my attention...

The wife and I just got back from an East Coast trip where we satisfied our inner history nerd by going to places like Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown, etc. I now have an overwhelming desire to buy a flintlock rifle and pistol… I bet you can get one of each plus some accessories for $1000. You could even order them as a kit so you can put them together yourself, because tinkering = fun! I have a surprisingly vivid mental picture of you traipsing about your Alaska property armed with a flintlock rifle and a brace of pistols…

It fits into a backpack loaded with a 20 rd mag. It's my trip long.er gun.

In other news 18 year old haphazardly stored CCI .22lr mini mag ammo (old enough that the lead looked black), when fired out of a stock Ruger Mk II pistol at short range is still sufficient to kill a fat, arrogant, slightly aggressive possum.
Good grief, this is turning out to be an eventful weekend....

Franklin Armory’s New Providence Carbine Fires One Round Per Pull, But Isn’t a Semi-AutomaticGiven the current climate, particularly in certain states, a firearm design that launches one round per trigger pull, yet isn’t a semi-automatic, might be a really good thing. Franklin Armory has surveyed the political landscape and has come up with a new prototype action.
They’re calling it the Providence and claim that while it fires one round per trigger pull, it isn’t a semi-auto. Beyond that, they’re not saying much, but we’d imagine the traffic around their SHOT Show booth next week will be heavy.

Some SHOT Show stuff... Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. is thrilled to introduce a cutting-edge new platform – the Ruger-57™ pistol. The Ruger-57 is a full-featured handgun wrapped around a standard capacity, 20-round steel magazine, chambered in the high performance and low-recoiling 5.7x28mm caliber. It’s finally back – the new Colt Python will make its debut in 2020. The return of one of the ultimate American wheelguns has been eagerly anticipated since the re-release of the Colt snake series began a few years ago. With production spanning nearly half a century and ending in 1999, the original Python is a highly sought after piece by collectors. This new revolver boasts modern alloys, a stronger frame and redesigned sights. Still, the new model Python has big shoes to fill – revolver lovers rave over the original’s perfect trigger and awesome accuracy. And while purists will never be able to accept a comparison with the original classic, Colt’s recent track record with new snake guns has been very positive. CMMG have launched their new 5.7 AR conversion kit, individual parts and pistols. The CMMG MK4 5.7 Upper and a 40 round conversion mag will allow any AR-15 to be converted to chamber 5.7x28mm in seconds. The new conversion kits and pistols follow on from the Banshee Mk57 5.7×28 pistol released in 2018, which used the radial delayed blowback action, but fed from FN Five-Seven mags. With the recent launch of Ruger’s 5.7 pistol and the new Speer Gold Dot 5.7x28mm Self-Defense Ammunition it really does seem like 2020 might be the most exciting year for 5.7x28s since it was introduced nearly 30 years ago! Henry Repeating Arms announced five new long guns as the company unveiled its X Model series. First teased at the 2018 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits, these new guns are a complete, ground-up redesign of the lever-action. The five new guns are the: - Lever Action X Model .45-70 - Lever Action X Model .410 Shotgun - Lever Action Big Boy X Model – available in .38special/.357Magnum, .44 Special/.44 Magnum and .45 Colt Well-known purveyor of Old West replica firearms, Cimarron is expanding its Bad Boy revolver line with a brand new chambering. In a nod to the growing popularity of the caliber, particularly with the handgun-hunting market, Cimarron has unveiled the revolver in 10 mm Auto. The Bad Boy offers hunters and shooters a traditional six-shot cylinder in a Single Action Army Pre-War frame, with an 1860 Army-style, one piece walnut grip. The eight-inch barrel is octagonal and wears target sights, though a Picatinny rail is available for the mounting of alternative optics.

Palmetto State Armory PS9 Dagger: $300 Glock KillerAt the 2020 SHOT Show, Palmetto State Armory announced a new 9mm pistol called the PS9 Dagger.
The short story is the new PS9 Dagger is a Glock clone. I don’t mean that in a disparaging way, but instead as shorthand for a polymer-framed, striker-fired pistol that takes Glock magazines.
Palmetto State Armory (PSA) will make several variations of the gun, but the basic model is the one that will ship first. It has many parts that are compatible with the Gen3 Glock pistols including the magazine and trigger group. PSA ships the PS9 with Magpul P15 magazines, but you can use your existing G17, G19 and other 9mm magazines with the gun....
....Assuming that these guns run as reliably as a Glock pistol – and only time will tell us that – a $299.99 defensive pistol is a major value. The price alone will sell many of these pistols.

Looks as if Ruger may have redeemed themselves if their 5.7 pistol turns out to be any good. I've heard that it's ergonomics are actually better than the FN 5.7 pistol....

Did you go to Shotshow, Rick, or just following it online? Going to a shot show and San Diego ComicCon are I my “want to do” list, for sure.
Also.... how the heck is everyone?! 😁
