Because, dang it, there should be a thread about it!
I've lately found myself more and more smitten with IPA's, the bitterer the betterer. Any fellow hop-heads out there? My little burg actually has a very credible number of joints which cater to the craft brew crowd, so I've got access to alot of regional stuff as well as national brands. I've got several go-to brands always stocked in the fridge, but am looking to branch out. Anybody out there have any IPA or DIPA faves I should try?

YES.
The Sweetwater IPA is quite good, but is probably more on the tame side of IPA bitters. Personally, I am still more of an Amber Ale fan. There is a local brewpup that recently started up their own brewery, they have an AMAZING amber. I am considering getting an apartment next door to the place, so I can have more than 1 or 2 per outing. It would probably be worth it.

I mostly drink red or amber beers myself. Recently tried the Innis and Gunn rum finish beer. Was good, but it and the original, (which are both pretty tasty and very smooth) gave me 50% whiskey shits the next day even though I only had one bottle. Overall, kinda not worth it. Definitely not a beer to get blasted on.

BEER!!! I LOVE THAT SHIT!!!
Ok, I know, before I start getting harassed about it...my affliction for Pabst Blue Ribbon is well known, and I don't care. Since having a real job and entering the Dad club this past year, I have drastically reduced my beer (kicked liquor) intake from possible abuse to moderately responsible. So yeah, for consuming large quantities of full-bodied beer for cheap...PBR is what I used to hang my hat on.
However, I have always been a hop-head (just couldn't afford to drink cases of craft micro brews in a weekend) and in my recent paternal-induced maturity have been enjoying the beers I really like. First, Guiness...love it! I have also been buying the Sam Adams Rebel IPA regularly for weekend football enjoyment, it is damn good and it's nice to see Sam Adams adding some fun new varieties. Speaking of Sam Adams, you can't go wrong with the holiday sampler pack. The White Christmas quickly became my favorite out of the bunch.
But yeah, I like it hoppy. IPS's FTW. Gotta enjoy now while it's still football season...then it's back to being productive on the weekends. Boo.

I actually passed up a six pack of Sweetwater IPA a few weeks ago when I was down in Florida, and got a six pack of "Hopsecutioner" from Terrapin Brewery instead. It was decent, might have sat on the shelf for a bit too long, though. I'll pick up some of the Sweetwater if I can find it at any of our local joints. Thanks for the suggestion! Sam Adams Rebel IPA is really decent, as are most of their other IPA offerings (Latitude 48, etc.). If you haven't revisited Sam Adams for a bit, give them a go. ETA - - just like Omega said to do about 60 seconds before I posted this, it turns out... Redeyes, I'm a fan of reds and ambers, too. I've tried a few of the whiskey finish beers, and they're a little snappy for me. I'm not a whiskey guy at all, even a hint of it makes me a little green around the gills. Add 'whisky shits' to the list, and I'll likely avoid those...

Good point. Since I've gotten more...mature (and by mature, I mean I'm a boring middle aged guy who is less willing / able to survive a beer hangover), I rarely drink more than a beer or two at any given time. I figure since quantity has gone down, quality can go up. Spending $12 for a six pack doesn't sting so bad when you know it's going to last you a couple of weeks.

Yuengling/Sam adams tend to be my go-to's, but this time of year, I like them thick. Stouts FTW. <3 Left hand Milk Stout. I've had a few good oatmeal stouts as well as a chocolate! I've had a few IPA's that I enjoy, but it's hit/miss...

Yuengling is my everyday(ish) beer. If there is a tap of it around DOSXX!!!! Love that beer on tap. Drop in a lime, hell yes. My step father makes some good beer.
Mostly I just drink red wine, Merlot is my everyday fave. No crap, I don't eat dinner without it.

I love beer so much I make it.
Dannus - current rage for IPA's and Doubles is Heady Topper out of Vermont. If you're in an area that can get it, try it. Otherwise if you're on the west coast you've got lots of options (Pliney the Elder, Pliney the Younger, Sculpin IPA, etc). Just about everyone out there now has a hop bomb. Some are good, some are terrible. Just depends on what hops you like and if the bozo that's dumping hops picked out the right combos. You should be able to get 3 Floyds where you are, look for Zombie Dust (All Citra) or the Dark Lord. Either is good. Rogue's Deadguy is always good. Another standard for the style is Dogfish Head's 90min IPA. You should be able to find that also - the 60min is okay, and the 120min is more like a barley wine, so if you're a IIPA/IPA guy stay with the 90.
My cheap go-to IPA for the keezer if I don't have one on tap is New Belgium's Ranger, or Wis Brew Co's 002IPA - both can be had for about 11.00 a 12pack in cans and that way I can get my pinecone/catpiss fix.
So many great breweries out there now - in the last year alone GB had four new micro's startup, that puts well over 15 breweries withing 2hrs of the house, not including the big boys to the south.
Oh. And the only fruit that should be allowed in beer had better have a Belgian label on it with about 5yrs of dust on the cork. Fruit does not go into lagers. That is all.

Great suggestions, NXP. I'll write them down and take the list with me the next time I go shopping! I've tried the New Belgiums Ranger and Rampant before - - both damn good, and regular additions to my fridge. Some of the others you noted sound familiar, but I don't remember if I've actually had them or just seen them in the store before.
We've got three local breweries in town, one affiliated wth a restaraunt and their beers are only available on tap there, two are commercial microbreweries. I'm with you on this being a golden age of brewing. I would love to try brewing some day, that's on the short list of hobbies to take up.

I've got a post in here called "Making Daddy Soda" that was my first experience (for SCIENCE!) into making beer last year. Now I'm more than balls deep into the abyss and I just don't see myself getting out of the hobby. For 25 bucks, 3hrs of work and 21 days of waiting I can make 5gal of IPA that would peel your face off. How is that a bad thing? Right now I've got an 11% Belgian Dubble with Sour cherries in the carboy, two English milds (light and dark), an EIPA, a Hefe, and a couple APA's in the kegs, rotating them with a few commercial beers here and there when the mood strikes. If you're interested in brewing, get on Homebrewtalk.com and read. Hands down the BEST website I've for brewing - the guys and gals there have been around and have no problems helping out new brewers and calming fears/answering questions. If you can boil water, you can make beer. Any questions on equipment, process, etc let me know - if I don't know the answer I'll find you someone that does.

I've got a post in here called "Making Daddy Soda" that was my first experience (for SCIENCE!) into making beer last year... GAAAAAHHH! I've totally not clicked on that post because I assumed it was some thread chock full of pictures of people with their crib lizards doing heart-warming family things. And I thnk kids are icky, and prefer my heart ice cold...**Consider it clicked on, and thanks for the info! **If anybody is reading this, then I totally don't mean your kids. Your kids are awesome, and decidedly non-icky. It's all those other booger eaters I'm talking about. Not that your kids would ever eat boogers, I'm sure they wouldn't. But I would totally understand if they did, because their boogers are probably really nice and taste like frosting. Because, to reiterate, your kids are my favorite! Uncle Maximus wouldn't lie!!

LOL, funny Dannus. I totally don't like other people's kids. So many rude and unruly brats. Honestly, my kids are not, you'd like them.
OT: Beer is yammyish!

Hey! I love beer too. This thread is great. Ironically when I turned 21 I could barely choke down Budweiser now Im a raging hop head. A lot of beers you guys are listing I've never heard of..must be an east coast thang. I am fortunate to live in an area absolutely awash with breweries..heres some of my favorites (that youve probably never heard of):
Ninkasi Total Domination IPA Ninkasi Tricerahops IPA Pyramid Outburst imperial IPA ($2.50/22oz @ 8.5 ABV woot woot) Good Life Descender IPA Double Mountain IRA (love me some red ale) Bridgeport Kingpin (basically IRA) Bridgeport Hop Czar Shock Top with orange Dos XX lager with lime (head nod to GBM) Widmer Hefeweizen with lemon Full Sail session (nice, crisp lager) Heineken Stella Artois Lagunitas Shugga Shugga Lagunitas Imperial Stout
Many others that I may or may not have killed too many brain cells to remember.
Cheers!
