No tinfoil, but does anyone think these folks are going to be at all reasonable if there is any sort of disruption to anything? This is not something that fills me with any sort of joy. I really think that we should have our preps in order, this is happening, IMO, far too frequently. The ability to stay home and remain moderately comfortable is going to be a good advantage as opposed to someone who's got to got the store to get milk. /preaching to the choir. Stand off distance. Lots of stand off distance. Ya'll are welcome at my place if it gets too stupid in your AO.

Fantastic! Looks like he's got a folder in a reverse grip. No wonder the other guy is covering his midsection. As a question of precedence - obviously this was a mob, and the mob moved to areas that it wanted to. As a person that may have been in it's path, given the encounter pictured, if the dude in a defensive posture had been armed would he have been in the right to draw and fire? Consequences of that decision? At what point does the worry for personal safety trump the worry of collateral damage to other people involved in the mob/riot should the rounds pass through the attacker? Can it be assumed that those in the mob are also attackers?

IMO, you'd be completely in the right to defend yourself. All the collateral damage is the fault of the aggressor. He made me shoot him by his action, anything that goes wrong in the aggression is the fault of the aggressor. I think there is lawful precedence for this.
Now, would I? Really depends, are the shots going to get me in a fight with 100s of rioters? Are the shots going to send them in a panic and a stampede? In my direction? Are my kids there? Do I just need to present, draw at him and tell him to strongly fuck off? If someone pulled a knife like that on me, I'd have plugged him and been prepared to fight every rioter.
but then again, I'd not have gone there.

The people who wanted to destroy were given their area to do so. Wow, they're not even covering it up.

Lawsuit inbound from insurance companies!
Seriously, though - is it now acceptable to "burn, rape and pillage" in the cover of the 1st amendment? Are we setting the stage for this to become the norm?

As I see it_ Legally (assuming the picture was admissible in court) he'd be justified in dropping the knife wielder in his tracks (morally and ethically as well IMHO). On a practical level, once he drops the bad guy, the crowd may very well surge forward and eat him alive. This is agit-prop at an in your face, physical level. They WANT confrontations to turn violent so they can claim aggrieved status in the press and justify their thuggery and bullying.
Best solution, back way off. Get into a secured position which you can defend. Later, after it's all over....pack you bags and move away. When all the productive persons vacate the area they'll starve (a-la Detroit). So, cede the turf to them as in the long run (as things stand) they will win by wrapping themselves in the guise of "victim-hood" and you'll loose in the (retarded and biased) court of public opinion long before you get to a court of law.
TL;DR- We have achieved the bread and circuses stage of our society/civilization. All that is left to us is to rosin up our collective bow and play the fiddle...

Lawsuit from insurance companies? I thnk my homeowners policy explicitly states it does NOT cover damage from war, civil unrest, etc. I would have to double check that, but believe my memory serves me correctly. Don't know about commercial policies. I suppose a rider to cover riot damage might be the next big sales-pitch from the insurance business... And yes, it is absolutely acceptable, providing your are the correct demographic. And yes, I absolutely think this will become the norm, and in fact HAS become the norm. But we can't say that or prepare beforehand for it, or we're racist. Remember the authorities in Ferguson pre-staging police, NG, and supplies in anticipation of rioting after the grand jury announcement? They were roundly decried as racists by the media and activists for assuming that rioting would occur...

GBM, I don't think that's what the mayor meant (that they just threw up their hands and gave the bad folks an area to destroy). I think she was saying that the very act of clearing an area and trying to make it safe for the peaceful protestors inevitably also gave space and opportunity to the folks who were just looking to tear shit up.

And now all the 24 hour Newz channels are showing live shots from Baltimore. I guess it's about to get all Ferguson-y all up in there....
Police line now advancing on protestors that are throwing things....
And now the police line is pulling back....

Now the riot police seem to be catching it from several directions and are trying to hold all four points of the intersection....can't tell if the crowd is dispersing or just moving to "assault" from another direction.
Now a crowd of 50 or so are destroying a police cruiser.
Uh-oh. An armored vehicle just pulled-up.....crowd hauled ass, but the LEOs jumping out of the armored car grabbed a couple of them and snatched a knot in their asses.

Looks like a majority of the "rioters" are kids from a nearby high school, where a so called "purge" was supposedly organized to take place after was-his-name's funeral today.

The looting of pharmacies has begun....a few more police vehicles destroyed....Wolf Blitzer can. not. believe. this is happening in a major U.S. city....rivers and seas boiling, 40 years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes, the dead rising from the grave, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together.....MASS HYSTERIA !!!
And now the talking headz are saying that the Crips, Bloods, and Black Guerilla Family gangs are going to join forces so they can out-gun the Baltimore police tonight.

GREAT! I'm glad the educational system has produced a fine group of teenagers that are willing to throw rocks at the cops and burn cop cars! Yes. Just yes.....
