Finished with beer; lovely, lovely 25th anniversary brandy barrel aged imperial pumpkin lager from the brewery at the trail head - I run for beer. Of interest, perhaps... madisonh3.com/about-2/Yeah, that's Madison. Might be a fun time, but it's a bit of a drive from here. Part of me wants to make a snarky comment about needing to drink just being there amongst "everyone that liberally knows better/more than you", but it'd be unfair to a decent town that has lots of fun things to do. Remove the ass-hats and politics, and it's a pretty okie-dokie place, and home of at least 4 breweries if memory serves. The beer referenced, however, was made in Milwaukee. That city is just a shithole with a few sparkles of joy in it - would not be the worst thing if it imploded. My opinions only, of course. I did run past two breweries on the trip, the end was where I had the beer, but right around mile 4 there's another (brew/resturant). Trying to figure out if there's another close so I could hit three on one run - set up an official "Beer Run". I think up in APL I could pull it off, they're all kind of clustered around the river/downtown. Wish I had some friends to run with me, no one else seems to have any interest in it.

The one good thing about liberal university towns is the prevalence of cute hippy chicks. I can't get enough of a doe-eyed girl drenched in Patchouli... *sigh*
As far as the Hasher runs, I just love the group slogan "A drinking club with a running problem". That's just funny!
We have a beer run locally that runs between two historic sections of town, with stops at local watering holes and brewpubs. I've never done it, but it looks fun. I'm on-shift for the upcoming one, but plan to do one of them at some point. I think it's a 4-5 mile run with 8 stops built in, and a mini-beer of choice at each stop comes with your registration fee. Good times!

That does sound fun - don't know if I'd need 8 stops along the route for 5 miles, but I like the concept!

Remember , patchouli hides a multitude of sins

I always had a thing for the daddy issues emo/goth with far too much eye shadow. Man am I glad MrsNXP is (mostly) normal - at this stage of the game she's about as much crazy as I can deal with. She echo's the same sediment FWIW.
Back to Fitness -
15K scheduled for the end of Nov.
Not sure if I should be shopping for snowshoes/crampons/cleats, my current digs are gonna be slick as hell if it's a trail course.

I love the smell of Tiger Balm in the morning. Or evening. Hell I just like the smell of it. Beats the pants off IcyHot... RE the selfie aerobics, I made it 30 seconds in and felt like I either owe that chick money for the show or I'm now on a Federal watch list. Both make me a little uncomfortable, to be honest.

Halloween 5K Run this morning, costumes encouraged so of course me and my sis (her burfday today also, so of course she's down for costumes) slapped something together over the week and showed up at the ass crack of early - in the rain - to run for fun. Me, the one - the only, a chocolate tights suit laced with white a gumdrop buttons, GINGABREAD MAN! Her, an apron wearing, roll pin wielding baker.
We were not alone, they said the attendance was over 1200, with over half in costumes. That's pretty dang fun if you ask me. Course was out of a park, down a 30% grade to the river valley for a quarter mile sprint followed by a return UP a 30% grade, through the rich district, Down another 30%, a half sprint, followed by the last 30% back up the bluffs and then uphill to the finish. We staged in the back as sis' times aren't mine and I promised her I'd run with her the whole way again, and it was a good thing we did. With all the hills (and me dragging her up the last one), we still managed around a 43min 5K.
Modesty of a 6' dude wearing a brown skin suit with gumdrop buttons aside, nothing beats hearing random people scream "Don't let the Gingabread Man Beat you!" and "RUN YOU COOKIE, RUN!!" I packed the costume away for next year, if I can run it solo next year they're gonna see how fast a cookie can run - hopefully a sub 20.
Will need to get pics.

NXP, H3 sounds like fun, just not sure I can hang. I still have 50# of beer I need to get rid of from Okinawa...
On the up side, garbage man step aerobics have rehabbed that busted ankle pretty well, it WORKS!
Need some real cardio, tho.

Small Business Saturday purchase unlocked - new race bike is hanging in the garage, ready for spring training and hopefully a couple tri's. WOO! I've done a couple of 'sprint' tri-athalons (so named because of the distance, NOT because of any real or perceived speed on my part...) and they were really fun. 800 yard swim, 13 mile bike, 5k run. A person who regularly runs and works out could probably do one with no additional training at all, but putting in some extra bike and pool time will make it all the more hassle-free. Did mine in a local fish and wildlife area, so the swim was in an old reclaimed stripper pit and the bike and run were in some pretty countryside which had been rehabbed after it was destroyed by coal mining. Flat with a few rolling hills, all on paved roads. There is a group around here that does an off-road version as well, trail run and mountain biking instead of pavement. I don't have a mountain bike or I would probably get in on that as well. Anywhoo, you'll have fun with the tri's, and I've personally found that having a goal of some sort you're working towards makes it easier to drag yourself off the couch and train.

Kutter - Get yo ass on Couch to 5K and learn to use MyFitnessPal for calorie/macro counts. If you've got a smart(ish) phone, both are free and if you're honest with yourself and keep your goals modest and consistent, you WILL lose that 50#. Mrs NXP is now down (undisclosed amount of weight if she somehow finds this post on the interweb - I value my life, gentlemen), lost a few sizes, is finishing up C25K strong and we're picking out a race for her. She's pumped, and super excited, and that's awesome.
It's not easy, you need to check what it is you're actually putting in your mouth and how often you're doing it; but it does work.
DM -
Yup yup, sis wants to do a sprint tri so I'll be forking over 50 smackaroo's to be a mobile cheerleader for an event. I'll use that for some beta so I can rip out a full speed run on my own. I don't mind doing the cheerleader thing, but I'm a competitive person and I can only do the whole "you're almost there, keep it up!" for about one race. Depending on how much time/daylight/life after family time I have left I might take a poke at an Olympic.
Swim has me worried, not going to lie. Pool time is expensive, and open water is only really good from about May to Sept before it gets uncomfortable or frozen. This year is an anomaly, but I'm digging it. Love to run in shorts while I still can.
That offroad tri sounds awesome. I'd grab a cheap hardtail to do that if we had anything close to it. When I stopped in to pick up my CAAD the shop owner had a used base model 29er for super cheap money he tried to float past me. If it would have been something other than an XL frame it probably would have ended up in the car too. I'll likely end up with one eventually as a "family bike", but for right now I've always wanted a fast road bike. Price was outstanding, and Daddy needs a treat once and a while too.
Dude at work is trying to talk me into picking up a set of rollers. I remember hearing his sad tales of woe banging off walls/door jams/random pets - but he's got the hang of them now and just loves them. Gonna swing past the used fitness place and see how much a set goes for.
I hate the thought of wrecking my pride and possibly a bike, but overall reviews for training look positive and it'll keep me off the salt encrusted roads of WI...
