Give me the opportunity to get that .308 I've been needing. Still undecided on a bolt (Savage or a Tikka most likely), get an FAL or give PTR another shot. I've been debating a Winchester Model 70 for my .308 (if i go bolt) or a PTR-91 (if I go semi). Yeah, a nice Win 70 was actually third on the possible bolt action list. Only thing is I'd want it in wood. Those are always tempting me from the pages of the CDNN catalogs that appear magically at my house once a month. Wood probably isn't a good choice for me personally on a general purpose hunting/target rifle.

As a lover of single stack 9's, damnit damnit damnit. Yet another carrot dangled in front of my G26 loving face. Seriously, though - I was kicking the thought of a cheap singlestack other than my brick of a S&W for summer AIWB carry, and for ~330 bones it may retail for, it's a LOT closer to what funds allow if the munchkins and wif haven't spent it yet. Browning - I've also kicked around the though of a 308 in years past. I always thought something like a Remmy 750 with the 308 Carbine model would be fun and more Fudd than Mall Ninja, with the exception that it doesn't have the huge mags. Bolt action I'd chase down one of the Ruger's that GM has or a cheap Savage to convert as time allowed. After playing with levers, I decided I much preferred either pump (Rem7600) or semi. I'd love a FAL, CTR or other beastly heavy 308, but they're lower on the totem pole than something that would see some actual use.

Wood probably isn't a good choice for me personally on a general purpose hunting/target rifle. OM was at my place a few months back and loved my Win 70 in .223. That was the first rifle I purchased to shoot a particular game animal.... groundhogs. My Model 70 has the heavy stainless varmint barrel and synthetic stock with a 4x16 swift scope. Back in the days when I lived in PA, I used to have groundhog competition with friends. Dairy and hay farmers loved us. The word spread among them and next thing you know we had about a dozen farms of over 200 acres each to go shooting groundhogs. Every weekend we'd hit 2-3 farms. We'd pull up to the farm house and talk to the farmer asking where they'd like us to hunt or where have they seen a mess of 'hogs lately. We'd hunt for a few hours and stop by the farmhouse on the way out to tell them how many "trespassers" we'd found. Ah, good memories and very nice people. Some would give us home made cider others invited us back for turkey or deer seasons. Good, honest, hard-working people who appreciated the help with pest control and my group of friends were more than happy to help. It really does pay to simply go up and ask for permission to hunt on a property.

NXP : My main hog rifle is a 6.8 AR, so honestly any .308 would see quite a bit of use. With a semi I'd be tempted to wring it out quite a bit on the weekends and it's higher ROF might prove costly. Man .308/x51 ammo has gotten expensive. I remember when you could get 1,000 rds for $100.
- NS : Yeah, I like Win 70's. My dad had several back in the day. Back in the 70's they were way more popular than the Rem 700. I'm not exactly sure why they started gaining on the Win 70, way better rifle IMO. Military adoption maybe.
I know they make them with synthetic stocks, but if I got one it would almost have to wear a wood stock. Doesn't make any sense right? Having a wood stock is what knocks it out of the running but I wouldn't go with a synthetic on that rifle. It's cause it's a classic. Would be like getting a 1911 with anything other than Colt or Springfield Armory stamped on it. I'll get one eventually, just have to get an accurate general purpose bolt first.
Those Swift scopes any good?

I have never had any issues with my Swift scope. I consider them on par with Nikon scopes. Prices range from $70 into the $600 range for their top of the line scopes. www.swift-sportoptics.com/rscopes1.html

I've only ever seen the lower end ones, so I guessed that they weren't very good based on price.
Common mistake maybe, but it's easy to equate a higher price tag with quality rather than try to sort through the lower priced affordable offerings.

relevant to my interests. Still, this thing better be very epic to beat a Glock 26.

Cheapo is good enough for analogs/22LR, but the upper end stuff is good glass (and better than some of the other expensive offerings).

Same height/width as a G26 but 0.25" thinner but in 380. Pass. Sorry, I don't have dainty man hands and 9mm isn't bad in the shield. At all. Wow, Glock goes for the old folks segment of the market.

Those Swift scopes any good? I have a few Swift scopes (most of them are 10+ years old) and they seem pretty decent for the money. The only problem I've had was with one of their red line/premier rifle scopes. After about 20 shots on a Rem 700 in .308, the illumination adjustment knob fell off......The LGS swapped me for another one, and it held-up just fine.

I hate to ask like this, but does anybody have a Streamlight TLR3 they want to offload for cheap/barter Kydex for? I need one for a job and really can't swing a BNIB one just for Kydex use.

Kinda sounds like the old Redfields.
I just never played with those Swift scopes before and was curious. Maybe next time I need some less expensive optics I'll give them a look. Thanks.

G42 I am disappoint. I took the measurements of that R51 and put them against my 3913. Other than the really cool spacegun look, weight's close, my Smith's a little longer in the grip but with another round, and my Smith's slide is slimmer by a RCH. Well poop. I guess I'll just save the duckets and get the nightsights reloaded or swapped out to new Triji's if they're still making them for the 3rd gens. All this disappointment needs a pick me up. Yep. Feel better now.
