Hey all, Homerj here checking in from God's country.
I recently got stationed here at Ft. Bliss from Ft. Jackson, SC where I had the privilege to meet many of the posters here in ZSC45. I had a blast during my time with you all and wish it wasnt so short, but hopefully in a few years I will be in the neighborhood either Ft. Gordon or Ft. Jackson again.
I am 27, married with a baby boy (Elian) due this January, got a Boxer/American Bulldog pup (Muggsy the Destroyer) just bought our first house and happy to be around family and my old home town again. I am hoping to do some backpacking locally in my area of TX/NM and would love to find a group like we had in SC to camp and backpack with.
I am glad Greg made this forum, I have been lurking at ZS forum off and on but the snarkiness, groupthink that prevents any kind of sharing of new ideas of knowledge, and the ban on politics is very offputting. I have a feeling the feedback and posts from the members here is going to be infinatley more productive and valid than 90% of whats on ZS especially since I know many of you and value the considerable wealth of experience I have seen firsthand.
I have become increasingly conservative with all that is going on in our country today and am glad we can all post in an environment where we don't have to be ashamed and hide that. I have been trying to get back to basics and put things into perspective by reading the Constitution, a biography of George Washington and Common Sense. Its a shame to see how far we as a country are falling away from our founding principles that made us great in the first place and the contrast between our first president and the current is mindboggling.
