Hey folks, this seemed like as good a category as any to start a thread about the current COVID-19 situation. Here's how things stack up at Ft. Maximus, feel free to chime in with your own experiences, thoughts, observations, etc.
THE GOOD
There have been confirmed cases in my state, but none reported in my immediate AO. I live in a decent sized city, so I expect that to change, but obviously for now that's one of the good things.
The states immediately adjacent to my AO (I live in very near proximity to both) also have confirmed cases, but are actually handling their shit pretty well. If your neighbors are dealing with things in a mostly competent manner, that's a good thing as well.
The bride and I are both healthy and well under 50, which generally bodes well for this particular strain as far as severity and recovery rates.
No kids = no major stresses or disruptions to our daily lives when school was shut down last week.
Decent jobs where we'll still get paid if we have to stay home due to a quarantine or illness, and decent health insurance to boot. That's gold in today's workplace, and I'm grateful.
Our jobs in public safety give us perhaps a bit more information on the evolving situation than your average joe may have, and more information is always a good thing. Career history also maybe makes us a bit more resilient when it comes to dealing with 'crisis' or otherwise uncertain or scary situations.
Enough preps on hand that we won't have to brave the maddened hordes to get toilet paper or bread for a substantial period of time.
THE BAD
Constant exposure to the public due to the nature of our jobs, and in my case, constant exposure to the hurt and sick public. If we go to work, it's going to be basically impossible to NOT come in contact with infected people once the first cases start popping up here.
No telecommuting with our jobs, and we are one group of city workers who won't be told to just stay home because our jobs are nonessential.
Our parents are all over 65, with some well into their 70's, and at least one with serious pre-existing COPD. Worrisome, because that is a prime demographic this particular virus can give major problems.
Already having various disruptions to our normal routines as far as organizations we belong to cancelling events, family gatherings being cancelled, etc. Also ended up cancelling a trip we were planning to take in early April because we didn't want to get stuck in a far-away land due to travel restrictions or other such problems.
THE UGLY
Nothing in this category yet. Well, maybe LowKey, if he's still out there somewhere. He's an ugly one for sure...
Hope all is well out there in F&L land. If you have a chance, let me know what's up with everybody, I'm confident if anybody is doing well with this shitshow it's the folks who frequent this site.
