Good post, Lowkey. On a related note, I just made a desert with a can of cherry pie filling that was nearly 5 years past the 'best buy' date. Tasty, and no ill effects!

I suspect that a lot of what we've been told about expiration and "best buy" dates has had more to do with sales than with actual viability of product, sad to say. Wish it were otherwise, as then we'd be on more solid ground when it came to planning. As it is we have to make these unofficial judgment calls. BTW, I'd be happy to try your 5 year old cherry pie desert....o course we'd need to play..... link |

Speaking of drugs here's an xls of the WHO's List of Essential Medicines, for anyone who's ever asked "What should I stock in my home pharmacy?" Obviously most are going to be RX meds, so be sure to have the appropriate paperwork in hand.
