This is one of those help me pick which item to buy threads. In this case it happens to be an automatic knife.
A few years back Texas legalized owning and carrying automatic knives and I've never taken advantage of the change in the law. I'm carrying the same flippers that I've always carried.
I tend to gravitate towards larger folding knives (3.5 inches to me is about perfect with most of my folding knives being 3 and 1/4 inches to 3 and 3/4's inches) and usually I get the ones where you flip the blade out on the spine. If it matters what I normally carry the ones I've carried the longest since about 2005 are the Al Mar SERE 2000 (5th from left/2005 - 2012) and a Zero Tolerance 0200 (4th from left/2015 - 2017) with an occasional fling with a Kershaw Needs Work harlot (2nd from left) and small to medium fixed blade sluts. Before that it was a much loved CRKT M16 (2002-2005) or a Kershaw 'Black Horse' (6th from left/the rubber black grip lock blade on the Shrade case - 1995 to 2002).
At any rate since I don't buy knives very often (strangely enough I actually have more guns than I do folding/carry sized fixed blade knives), so I was just kinda thinking I'd say screw it and just do it right and get something really nice. I've narrowed it down to 3 good, solid automatic knives from 3 good, well established companies.
• Gerber 06 AUTO Folding Knife 3.8" S30V Black Plain Tanto Blade and Aluminum Handles.
Normally I'm just kinda meh about Gerber, but I really like this knife and it's made out of good materials.
I like pretty much everything about this knife except for the brand.
It's design and grip is built for maximum retention and I've never owned a tanto bladed knife before.

• Al Mar SERE Automatic
This next one is actually the knife I originally wanted when I bought my (manual opening) Al Mar SERE, but back then automatic knives were illegal to carry here in Texas so I bought the other one. That's basically it's biggest strength and it's weakness. Meaning it's just like my other Al Mar SERE pretty much, but it's an automatic and instead of a satin blade it's a blackened blade. So I kind of already have one of these, but it's a bit different.
It's also the most expensive out of the bunch because they're out of production.
So I'm not sure if I should just get a completely new to me design or not. With this I've wanted it for awhile and at least I know exactly what to expect, but I'm not sure if this is ground I've already covered or what.

•Benchmade blue Casbah auto CPM S30V
The design on the next one is good. It's a Benchmade, which adds something on its own. It's a little different cause it's auto and it's blue and the materials are really good. (S30V steel)
It has a safety button (just like the Gerber) and it's release button is a little more recessed to prevent it from getting pressed accidentally. It's grip design isn't quite as bulky as either the Gerber or the Al Mar, but it's got textured grivory (nylon copolymer) and jimping all over it. So pretty sure holding onto the thing wouldn't be a problem.

•Boker XL Kalashnikov
Then there's a somewhat budget auto made out of decent (AUS8) steel just in case you guys think the others cost too much.
This one's the XL version of the Boker Kalashnikov with a 3.82 inch blade and only made for this company.

So which one would you pick?
