Every run across some small widget that makes an appreciable improvement to your gear? Stuff like "ranger bands" back in the day before anyone made them commercially and they were cut from bicycle inner tubes? Being shown how to take a damaged closed cell foam sleeping mat and cut a section out and wrap with 100 mile and hour tape to make a waterproof cushioned seat for field use? Sometimes little and seemingly inconsequential things can make an appreciable difference out in the woods, and if that contributes to better sleep or less work it can be worth a few extra grams. Here's one I just stumbled across... Packtachs. The plastic/rubber section goes on one side of the fabric, and the D-ring on the other. I'm thinking of all the times nature didn't properly place all my anchor points for my tarp to ensure I had nice clean lines when I was done setting up. You know...when the tie-out on your tarp is six inches in the wrong direction from where you wished it was? 3-4 of these tossed into the pack and you can have a few extra tie down points wherever you need them without damaging your tarp. What simple little gadgets have you run across to make things a bit better out in the woods?
