I thought we could use a few gear specific threads...
So to kick it off, I ordered a GobSpark firesteel with palm scraper from Firesteel.com last week and the package hit my mailroom this afternoon.
Holy Crap! This thing throws sparks like someone has taken a grinder to an I-beam.
I'm tempted to say you should use a wielders face mask when using it. I suspect this could kindle a spark in damp moss....
Good handle to grip the steel, nice big, square, chunky handle on the palm scraper so you can get a good grip even with numb fingers. The palm scraper serves as a scabbard/case for the fire steel, and both are tethered together with paracord to keep from loosing them. Options are in a dark subdued color or blaze orange. For a change I opted not to go with a "tactical" low profile color and went with the orange. I figured that when I'm not using it it will be inside of an earth shade colored pouch, and when I am using it I'll be making a fire so not as if anyone looking won't be fooled into not seeing the campfire just because my firesteel is wearing a camouflage handle.
For the $18 I spent I'm very pleased.
