Yep traded in the ol 2wd 01 Chevy Silverado for a 2011 Nissan Xterra Pro 4X ( still keeping my big Chevy). Seems nice and all on my test drive and my ride home. Just got home still need to figure out all the little places to cram stuff and how to work the radio . Found out it has an upper and lower glove compartment.
This may end up as a build thread ( i plan to use it as a surf fishing rig) but to start its a " i got this and put this and this and this in it yall got any better ideas?" thread.
Sofar in the 30 min i owned it i got 2 flashlights a Resqume, pen and mechanical pencil plus note pad. Pack of smokes and a lighter. Damn thing has 27 power points but no lighter or ash tray. Need to build 2 identical first aid kits one for each truck, transfer the towing and recovery gear over to it. I feel amazon will love me but my wallet will hate me.

I've had very little problems from my Xterra. I had to replace the head gaskets at 110k because they were leaking into my starter and killed it. At around 85k the hoses for the antifreeze and brake fluid reservoirs rotted through and needed to be replaced. 100k tune up and at 150k the radiator needed replacing.
Oh, 140k the A/C evaporator died.
All in maybe $2k to keep it mechanically sound over 15 years. I dump Mobil 1 synthetic oil in the engine with bosch filters. Plenty of power, 17 mpg and very good handling.

Well i been doing some tinkering with it found out i have to make the planets align to make the off road lights work . The cargo area has a tiny storage are under it so its useless to me. The sliding/screw lock cargo box thingy is ok i guess. Need to build a pull out drawer system to hold all my crap. Got an idea to build a surf fishing pole holder on the roof rack so i can put them up there when i drive. The hard part now is decent not $200 seat covers. It has leather seats which i don't care for want cloth.

Watch your height if you go vertical on the roof rack. Probably better to go horizontal?

Yep that was the idea back to front. The factory first aid kit is missing. Checked them out online and they are just a boo boo kit anyways, so need to grab some spare parts and build one for it. Am i weird i get joy out of building/assembling all different kinda kits/rigs like this.

Not a bit! kinda one of the reasons the wife lets me be a bit of a 'prepper'. Even if I walk away from it all tomorrow, we'll still have 6+ months food, plenty of ammo, first aid kits, etc. There are worse hobbies... lol

You will love it, once you get used to the land yacht sensation. My better half gets combative if I ever suggest getting rid of ours.

Reinforce front bumper for 20mph "encounters" Run-flat tires all around Kevlar inserts in doors AR500 deflector frame behind front grill AR500 panels in rear gate 3m security film on windows CB and quad band HAM radios Upper and lower engine brush guards
Let me know when you finish yours, I am still working on mine!

I've had two suburbans, an '85 and a '93. The '93 was more comfortable but I missed the "ride" of the '85....it had more of a truck feel to it vs the lux car/land yacht feel of the '93.
Other positives about them are: How often do you see +20 year old suburbans still just motoring along when other cars of that vintage have fallen apart? If you're in an accident you can be pretty sure your vehicle will fair better than the other guy's. These things are like tanks.

I absolutely tortured my 1980 suburban, for YEARS. Put well over 100k miles on that thing, touring most of the east coast dragging a 6000# trailer from one dive bar to another. I would love to have that truck back right now.
All the gadgets and stuff aside, it is a really good, reliable motor. That is all that matters.
(Oh yea, I had a woman rear end my suburban once, in a honda accord. My bumper had a minor dent, her car was totaled out. Just sayin'. )

Just got something new to me, 2013 Suburban LTZ 4wd. Family is growing...needed to level up. Might want to think about installing one of these. to reduce the wear on the engine and extend it's life. That suburban has a good chance of still being around when you drive your youngest off to college for their freshman year.
