Went camping this weekend, couple things.
A. Really wanted AC. 85* is hot to sleep in. B. Really wanted somewhere to cook. Tired of cooking on a small camp stove and picnic table. 1a. Don't like my lil' girl going potty by herself at 10pm. Sure, 100 ft away but still. And the B-Room was N-As-ti. K2. Most have some awesome awnings so having a place to chill would be cool. Add some fans and we all chillin'. 6c. I want to go more places. $200 a night hotels are really pissing me off.
Help me out, it has to be small and towable by either an Xterra or a Saturn VUE 4cyl.

Not due to any concerns about weight on the axle, it's simply that they handle better (they tend to be less prone to getting squirrelly on you) and a single flt on one side wont drop you onto a rim (you also have the option of chaining up the axle on that side and changing the flat later). I think something like this might suit you nicely.

One thing GM didn't meantion is he wants it for potential family camping. I agree on first look the teardrops fill the bill, but I also know they are 'built around 1 bed' I've seen pop-ups go from 500-10k$. Here is what looks like a good one, hard sides, not canvas... $1750 columbia.craigslist.org/rvs/5230302417.html1300# empty, add ~150# for the fridge and AC. Now the downside to a pop-up? Still no private potty... If you are looking for new? Possibly a Scamp? The 16' has a bathroom... www.scamptrailers.com/showroom/16-standard-trailers.html#!Scamp_16ft_Standard_Layout3_03 Approximate weight 1750-2000 Or let me toss this in there. What about a portable loo, and a portable shower enclosure?

Or let me toss this in there. What about a portable loo, and a portable shower enclosure? On that, the bride and I still tend towards tent camping, but we're doing more and more 'civilized, old people' tent camping. Meaning, we go to a state park, head to the tent camping area, chillax in our tent setup, then take a short walk to the nice, enclosed, fully realized toilets and shower houses when it's time to get cleaned up or do our business. We have been SERIOUSLY considering getting a small tow-behind or pop up to augment our tent camping. The enclosed loo and shower that most RV's include aren't really needed if the areas you go to have decent facilities, and frankly most state parks I've been to in the past decade or so have very credible public hygiene areas. THAT said, we almost exclusively go camping during the week and off-season (very early spring or late fall), so we don't tend to run into crowded conditions that = nasty, overused bathroom facilities..

Yes, I'm down with a enclosed potty and and shower would not be horrible, but not necessary. A private area to use a cloth, warm bucket of water and wet wipes is pretty good for getting clean.
Potty is almost a must though.

When I was a kid, my folks had a pop up camper. We took that thing everywhere, all the time. Man, it was fun! (for me at least, I was a little kid!) Oh, but you would like a bathroom... That changes the dynamic. Airstream anyone? ETA: These guys. www.lilsnoozy.com/ just down I-26 from us. Cool trailer, price is in line with all the lightweight manufacturers. If you get one, can I borrow it?

20K, YIKES!
Saw a pop up on Craig's for $2450. Looked nice.
Saw a really nice A Frame style for $6K. Yeah. Craig's maybe the way to go here. Need to shop around.
I started to look at tents and a portable AC units but then it gets back to hours and hours of set up.
I'm just to strapped for time for all that set up/break down.

That looks well suited for your needs. Is $6k a fair price?
Not to beat a dead horse, but you could scale up a teardrop on a slightly longer trailer base to provide the extra room you might want. Mama and Papa Bear Bedroom Baby Bear Bedroom Toilet Room/Shower room (look at sailboats to see how to squeeze both into a small area).
Then stick with the fold out kitchen set up that seems popular with that style of trailer, maybe a roll up awning over it as well? I'm just thinking of this with an alternate use as a bug-out trailer, and I dislike articulated structures (pop-ups and a frames) as I don't trust stuff not to break at the worst possible time.

I'm looking at a solid structure over anything else. Price is a factor.
I'm looking at portable AC units and quick set up tents. Need to research if anyone else had does this as well. Might be a crap idea.

Having been stuck in a canvas popup for a week in sub 20F temps (yes, we went through almost 100# of propane that week, but she held), I will say that canvas of any kind would never be on an acceptable list for me. Hardside only. Articulation is fine, it just needs to have solid walls. My buddy now has a 22' fifth wheel with slide out that'd be just perfect for what you're looking for, GBM.
It's short, maneuvers amazing thanks to the 5th wheel and the overall length being less than most 16' boats, pulls with no problems behind a half ton (to be fair he uses a 1 ton diesel) and has room to actually live in. A real potty, a real kitchen, a real set of beds - you get the picture.
It's probably way more than you need, or want - but it is very comfortable, especially in the woods up at Man Camp.

Lowkey, tow vehicle is either a Saturn VUE 4cyl or a V6 Xterra which will pull anything and drink gas like crazy doing it.
