France train shooting: Americans overpower gunman:
www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-3402336Three people have been hurt after a heavily armed man opened fire on a train in northern France, before being overpowered by two American passengers. The incident happened on the high-speed Thalys service near Arras, and the attacker was arrested at Arras station.
The interior minister praised the Americans, one of whom was seriously injured, as was another passenger. The man arrested was a 26-year-old Moroccan. Anti-terrorist officers have taken over the case.
The weapons were said to include a Kalashnikov, a knife, an automatic pistol and cartridges. One of the two people seriously hurt had a gunshot wound, the other a knife wound.
French media said the passengers who overpowered the suspect were US Marines who had heard the man loading a weapon in a toilet cubicle and confronted him when he came out.

But...but...but...evil assault rifles are illegal in France, right?
And a Moroccan? Couldn't be a peace-loving civilized muslim trying to gun down innocent people? No way!
Oh, and Semper Fi!

And of course, it takes U.S. GI's to step it up for the French. Oh, snap!

I hope the injured Marine makes it ok.
Wonder what French law says on this? Half of me thinks they will release the "poor misunderstood foreigner, who was peacefully minding his own business as he loaded his Kalishnikov..." but then I remember he isn't in the states.

It's starting to sound like several branches were involved.....even the National Guard. From Reuters: Chris Norman, a 62-year-old British consultant, told reporters he had been sitting in the same carriage as the Americans when they heard a shot.
"I looked up and saw a guy carrying an AK-47 or at least I assume it was some kind of machine-gun," he said. "It could have been a real carnage, there's no question about that."
Alek Skarlatos, a 22-year-old member of the U.S. National Guard from Oregon, said his friend, who is also in the military, had been injured while he grappled with the gunman. They eventually got the attacker under control, Norman said. "I just got back from Afghanistan last month, and this was my vacation from Afghanistan," Skarlatos said.www.reuters.com/article/2015/08/22/france-train-shots-idUSL5N10W38B20150822From the Air Force Times:
An airman was wounded by a gunman on a train from Amsterdam to Paris on Friday, according to an internal Pentagon report obtained by Military Times.
The report did not say how the airman was wounded, but media outlets have reported that U.S. troops overpowered the gunman, preventing him from killing the train's passengers.
Three other service members were involved in the incident: two Marines and one service member whose branch was unknown at press time, the report says.

Found this interesting...
“Spencer got to the guy first, grabbed the guy by the neck, and I grabbed the handgun and got the handgun away from the guy… then I grabbed the AK by his feet and started muzzle-bumping him in the head with it. And then everyone just started beating on the guy while Spencer held the choke-hold until he went unconscious”.
He then took the AK47 and started clearing the other carriages, believing there could be a second gunman. Upon inspecting the weapons he found it was the shooters own incompetence, as well as their quick thinking that prevented more from being injured – or even killed. He said:
"I noticed when I removed the round in the chamber of the AK that the primer had been stuck. That meant he had pulled the trigger on the AK but the primer was faulty, so the gun didn’t go off and he didn’t know how to fix it… when I cleared the handgun I noticed there was no magazine in it, so he either dropped it accidentally or didn’t load it properly so he was only able to get one shot off”.

France train shooting: Americans overpower gunman:
Is it just me, or is the guy on the left wearing TWO vests? It looks like he has a blue soft armor vest on under his POLICE vest. I dunno, maybe the outer vest is just for cameras, nitrile gloves, and white flags...?

That's why skillz to beat wholesale are always important. Heck yea, and an airman put in work? Oh, snap.

Some of you service the soft serve ice cream machines so the officers and flight line types don't file for hardship pay.
