I swear at myself sometimes. Years ago, I got into 9mm and was happy. Then the first "Great Stupid" hit, and the shelves emptied and all that was left was 40SW and the rimfires. I had a rimfire, and was content until the "Great Stupid" had passed. I mentioned to myself, "Self, you really should pick up a 40 so if this nonsense happens again, you can at least shoot". Horsepucky I muttered back, this'll never happen again. Besides, I've diversified and picked up a 357Mag and no one likes those. Well, time marched on, I had off the shelf 9mm, picked up a few more 9mm's and was happy. Then the "Great Stupid 2: The Reckoning" happened, and everything emptied, even the rimfires. First to get back instock? 40SW. And it's been stable since, something to do with the local municipalities and budgets from what I've heard. Personally I'm not a fan of 40SW, and if given the choice I'd just jump to 45ACP. Problem is, that's slightly less of a pain than 9mm to find. Then I went and shot Kutter's G35. Well crap. I liked it, a lot. I know I can just order ammo online, and while I've done it before, I'm a keep it local guy. I like supporting local shops if possible. I know my G17RFT2 is a 3 pin, so it's 40SW compatible. Local Glock prices have soared, and while I could go to M&P I'd rather go cheap and use a platform I already own (and can scarf up mags cheap for). Ideas? B's, moan's, gripe's, complaints? TL:DR- Anyone know if you can get a cheap factory Glock 22/35 upper?! NXP

Have you looked at Lone Wolf? What I personally like about Lone Wolf is that they're making Glocks like AR-15 in that you can buy them in parts. You could buy a slide, next month of so the barrel, etc.
However, CDNN has used Glock 22s for like $350. That would probably the cheapest route. Give em a call because you can't buy guns on the internet from them. Which is just mersh.

I've seen Glock 22 slides for sale, but they aren't exactly what I'd consider cheap when compared to the refurbished police trade ins.
If your goal is to shoot cheap and available .40 S&W ammo I'd start there.
I did much the same thing in buying a Stormlake .40 barrel for my G-20. Same thing happened here during the 2nd round of the great stupidity.

NXP, for the price of a built .40 slide, I'd buy a trade in G22. Or, as was suggested, build the slide piece by piece.

Yeah, I know. I've seen the random G22 take-off on GB for around 250ish, but they are few and far between. Priced out the LW setup, and am equally disappointed in that you all are correct, a trade in actually makes more sense. I keep a watchful eye on the "used" section of the local fun shops, hoping that they will repopulate for near that (it's how I caught my damn near NIB RTF2 for four and change), but with the Great Stupid 2 in full effect, everyone's marked up handguns accordingly and have no issue sitting on something full priced. Eventually they will sell, depending on what desparate individual storms through. I'm actually working on a guy that's strapped for cash at work - holiday's are coming up and he's got an XD40 that's just sitting and 3 kids and a wife to shop for. Saw a place selling the Beretta SC PX4's for $380 also, but I'd rather have the rotating barrel I think, and they're portly for their size... Nope. Next Glock will be a Gen4 G26. RG said so. (Unless a G35 shows up for a good deal.) NXP

Pretty pleased with my Springfield products in .40S&W. Your mileage may vary.

Stay away from those M&P .40 Trades. Chances are they had rust issues due to improperly applied tenifer or whatever it is they used on the slide. A friend's agency here in south Florida is getting all new M&Ps from Smith due to this issue. Constant rust issues. If you're going to Cerakote it then buy away!

I need to get on one of those .40 trades myself. Using the internet to buy ammo online has mitigated alot of my need for a .40 though. Although .40 is everywhere now the price of internet 9MM is still cheaper than .40. I've shot my pistol more than ever the last few months, although my .22 is probably going to continue to collect dust for some time. I sure do miss four figure round counts at the range.....

The only four figure round counts I get nowadays are from airsoft training lol.

I got rid of the G17 and kept the G22 and bought a Lone Wolff barrel in 9mm for the G22. It was the best thing I could have done. However. There's really no difference in the .40 and the 9mm in good defensive ammo. Buy the 9mm online and save yourself the cash.
As for the .45, I own several .45s. I love them. I'll take my 9mm over the .45 any day of the week; once again with good defensive ammo in the magazine.

Except for 10mm, I'm trimming back to NATO calibers for everything. 9mm, 5.56, .30Hate. I'm keeping the 10mm platform around simply for the barrel change capabilities.

So much truth on the airsoft and four figure days. I think my lowly HK made G17 has paid for it self many, many times over now. I know I've already gone through 3 5K BB bags with it... and propane stink the garage up to high heaven.
Doc, I'd almost consider selling the G17, but it's an RTF2 that I've wanted since I first held one, and damnit I'm keeping it.
Really what this all comes back to is I need to order more online and just suck it up. I like supporting the local guys, I do. I can easily get more rounds for guns I have than picking up a new (similar platform, new caliber) gun for the sake of convience. Damnit. Why must common sense make so much sense. It still doesn't stop the want for something new and different.
Maybe I'll look at picking up a beater 1911 so I can play Barbie with it, now that AR's have lost their panage (insert clever accent above the 'E').

Lol, you mean a Crypto special? I'd save your money. Buy / have extra Glocks. Buy / have extra ARs. For you to use. For family to use. For friends to use. Have lots of ammo. Have house ammo. Have Buried ammo. Have cross town ammo. Have out of state ammo.
For the price of a nice 1911 and some stocked .45, you could buy/build two $500 basic ARs, 250 rounds of wolf each, 2 chest rigs, and 20 magazines for your friends to have down the road. That's how I'm thinking these days. I'm selling off all my foofoo firearms and calibers. I'm replacing them with $389 G17s, $500 S&W MP15s, and cheap ammo, mags, and some cheap tactical gear to go with each.
