Okay folks, let's see what the hive mind can come up with on this one.
"Battle Belts" are tacticool and all, but they scream "mall ninja" unless you're actually on a two way range or at a training site. I'm pretty sure some of us might like a battle belt that blends into our normal routine. Something that can carry extra mags, yes, but also cell phones, FAKs, multi tools, ect, without looking like Burt Gummer <Hail Burt!> Sure, there are "fanny packs", but that's not the direction I want to go. Fanny packs are bulky. I'm wondering about stuff resembiling old school cartridge belts or old western gun belts...but ones that don't scream "GUN!!!!" SO. What thoughts has the hive mind?

Are you wanting this belt to also serve as your trouser belt? In which case, a decent ccw belt (heavy duty leather or nylon with a stiffener insert) in conjunction with a myriad of kydex pouches that can mixed n matched?
Or, something like a lumbar pack from mountainsmith?

Tagged for interest. Only belt I have is just a thick leather belt for CHL carry (and holding my pants up) from Bullhide. Want to put together a belt for range use and classes and was actually talking to GBM about it the other day. There are like way too many options out there. Was looking at the DSG 1.75 competition belt (*Click*) that comes as a two-piece kit. It is somewhat bat-beltlike though. Want to find what else is out there before I go spending $89 bucks.

If anyone remembers Chute34 from " that other board" i got one of his 1.5 rigger belts with plastic stiffener insert. It is 4 years old and still holds up to my daily abuse. I carry my keys on a Maxpedition key hook, my S&W Shield in a kydex holster with extra mag in a kydex mag holder. A cheap no name cell phone case off amazon hold the phone. A cheap Condor Molle Gadget Pouch can hold a boo boo kit plus daily items like meds, ipod with ear bud/charger, and a Altoids tin survival kit. When i feel like it i also toss a Leatherman Wave on the belt in its pouch. Then there is my work stuff while not a full FAK tool pouches i wear are heaver and more abusive with the metal clips being put on and taken off 4 times a day.
Way back when i had a small flip cell phone i used the Condor Molle Gadget Pouch as a phone holder.
Now that Chute34 aint around anymore on Zs and i have heard a lot of bad stuff about his company Endeavor stitch works on the net so i would not recommend buying from him anymore. But any good brand rigger type belt should work.

How about one of the maxpedition grab and go bags? Some have mags pouches, FAK, and space for extras. I'll look at what they have.

Lowkey, you just described what I keep in my pockets most days. Cellphone, 1 spare mag, small fak, leatherman, flashlight, wallet, and handkerchief all ride in my cargo pants. CWP is in an IWB holster.
I think the problem with any kind of full-on "duty belt" setup is that the thing is very difficult to conceal with all the stuff hanging on it. A stiff instructors belt or gun belt would let you IWB a bunch of kydex stuff if you wanted, (and hold your pants up!) but for me it is easier to just wear pants with lots of pockets.
Or am I looking at the question the wrong way?

Or am I looking at the question the wrong way? Nope, you're not looking at it the wrong way at all. Part of it is I'm getting tired of loading and unloading pockets every day when I go to work. There's a lot of "stuff" in my pockets. Once upon a time I had a nifty little belt pouch (I forget the maker*) I'd picked up in the PX in Iraq. It was handy as hell, then my wife decided it was "cute" and she "needed" it.....and I haven't seen it since, nor does she recall where it went. Anyway; I'm trying to figure out something belt-wise that isn't "Hercules Girdle of Power" wide/sized, but able to serve as a pistol belt/EDC belt, and cabable of maybe taking an old school fanny pack once in a while if needed and a pair of suspenders. All in a package that wouldn't scream cop/GI/Airsofter/Mall Ninja. I know, not easy. Closest I've seen so far is/are these- AtlasAresHSGBut all still scream "tactical". I'm thinking looking a bit more leather-ish (not cop patent leather/basket weave). Something where swapping out pouches was an extremely easy thing. Hmm... *Not Maxpedition (at least not any of their current offerings).

lapolicegear.com has Vertx gunbelts on closeout for a hell of a price: www.lapolicegear.com/vtx-9500.htmlI use a Tuff products belt (also purchased from LA Police Gear) that does the trick for me. Carries all my RTF Squared kydex goodness.

Thanks OM, I may try one of those out for starters. Obviously theres no way to completely hide the fact that you're toting a buch-o-stuff in around your waist, I just want to keep it from being bulky and drawing attention. Keep pouches small and to the minimum, preferably where a worn jacket would keep them out of sight.

Okie doke..belts here. Quality is very good, sizing is a bit funny (order a size up) but seems to carry a load well. You will likely need to take the buckle off to thread it into your pants, even on BDUs. Once the buckle is removed the belt fit in all my jeans. It has a HDPE sheet inside to add rigidity.
Verdict: buy it! Its $25 for fucks sake. Like I said just be very careful regarding sizing.
Correction: the buckle needn't be removed for use in BDUs, just jeans.

He's a 1-man show competing against corporations.
Well, 'competing' is the wrong word. I have one of his belts (SOLID, comfy) and have never heard ill spoke of his products.
But 1 guy can only answer so much email and still get shit done.
That said, Galco makes similar rigger/gunbelts in a variety of styles and sizes that I use for everything. Solid and easily available.
