I was considering selling this boat anchor, but now I'm keeping it. So here goes, this review starts about 1000rds into my ownership of it. So far I've had two malf from some 20 year old surplus ammo. Meh, I blame the ammo.
some observations about the rifle are as follows:
1. Sights are banging. Regulate them at 36m on the 200m aperature and they're right on at all ranges. Mounting a scope is a little problematic but new models have a welded on rail.
2. Reliability is excellent. I've warmed this thing up to smoking hot and it keeps slinigng 147gr pills very accurately.
3. Overall ergonomics are good, the stock is a about 1/2" too long for me but any other stock puts my nose on the rear sight which sucks to get wacked from the recoil. Recoil is not brutal, it's not punishing or a jack hammer. You know you're shooting it for sure but the recoil iswell dampened by it's 9 lbs weight. That's not great but it's not horrible either, people have AR-15s that are heavier. I've installed the longer safety and its easily reachable now.
4. The jungle handguard is inadequte from shooting in the summer. It's thinner and lighter but you better have a glove in the summer in Souf Cack. The wide forearm is much better but I feel like it's too wide for my large glove hands. I like to wrap my thumb to control recoil and I can't with the wide HG.
5. Mags are very affordable. It does sling brass and they can get dinged, not a reloaders dream but with prices hovering around $850 you can afford the ammo now.
6. This is not a defensive rifle. Do not buy this as a CQB rifle. This is a born and purpose build to defeat hordes of Soviets coming through the Fulda Gap*. This rifle is very accurate, the trigger pull is doable, and it's a brutal brawler. Can it be pressed into a defensive role, or home defense rifle sure but at 41" long and 9lbs it's far from ideal.
