OK, so the above is my "vehicle stuff" kit...but, given my habit of venturing to questionable places, and actually havingbeen stuck a few times, I wanted to build a no bs basics kit...water, food, fire, shelter....for when "shit got real"...everything else in the above kit is more for convienance...but, what about when you break down in the boonies on a hot south cak-a-lackey day and have no cell signal... So, here's my "No BS Basics" kit...(I have gotten a recent fondness for the MTM cases...cheap but decent quality, and multiple shapes/sizes, they have awesome utility...expect to see more in the future... The case, closed, with USAF Survival Knife shown for scale: On top, some mfg'ed tinder, tube tent, esbit stove w/ fuel, hand warmers, small roll orange duct-tape, and blaze orange hunting vest: ] Second layer, you can see the fishing line, Surefire L1, Buck Paklite Skinner in blaze orange, and UCO matches: Third layer, w/ water packets removed, you can see two 2400 calories emergency food rations: Bottom row, SOL Tarp, SOL Emrgency Shelter Kit, orange 550 cord (50'), and custom SOL Adventure Medic Kit, including a signal mirror, mini-bic, compass, whistle, space blanket, sparker: Things I plan on adding/have added: -Fishing Hook/Sinker kit -Two small Rescue Flares -Water Purification Tablets Now, keeping in mind this is a NO BS Emergency Kit, and will be supplemented with my EDC, hiking gear, and standard truck kit, etc., is there anything I'm missing? This kit is just to keep you from dying... Thanks in advance for the inputs!

Nice! Have you ever tried the emergency rations? I have a big brick of another manufacturer but never tried one.
I think you should consider a Sawyer mini water filter or lifestraw instead of/in addition to the purification tablets. I have both of them, really light and takes up minimal space. The sawyer has adapters for common threads on water bottles, hydration packs, and includes a drinking pouch. Both in the $20 range.

That's the feed-back I was looking for...sometimes you get so enthralled in the build, you lose sight of things (like a water filtration device). I have some extra life straws sitting around...think I'll throw one on there for good measure! Thanks!

I'm going to see how many days it'll last me, and how long I can last off just the bars, wild edibles (grapes, hawthornes, beauty berries), and water/coffee. They taste decent, but, you need plenty of water to wash them down....I'm guessing the whole pack will keep me going 4-5 days...will report back later :0)
