Story time, true story time....
I'm chillin' out with the homies at PSA waiting for a gun to show up and get logged in. They tell me a story of true intrigue. Some dood in AK sold a Form 1 (Non-Transferable) SBR to his buddy. This buddy was in SC for a spell but went to TN. This sale occurred over the phone without NFA approval, which couldn't happen anyway. The FFL guy in AK took the SBR in from dood 1's wife and he shipped it to PSA without ATF approval. So far, two felonies. This was sent snail mail from AK to SC in a massive pelican box, like the really big ones. IT shows up and PSA attempts to open it but it has two massive locks on the box with two sets of keys that don't go to the box.
There is no FFL with the weapon. Felony number 3. They call around and the FFL guy says "Oppsss, my bad!" and sends an FFL.
PSA asks what's in the box, we can't open it.
Oh, it's a SBR.
Ok, where's the transfer form and the Form 4.
Huh, what's that?
There has to be 2 forms, the transfer of ownership and approval to sent it out of state.
No idea, I just shipped it.
PSA:
They track down the wife, she has no clue what a SBR is.
They track down the seller, he says it's a registered form 1 SBR that he sold to his bro.
Ok, where's the form 4?
Huh, no it's registered.
Um, yeah, but you have to transfer it which you can't do anyway.
Oh, I don't know.
They get hold of the buyer. He says he paid for it and it's all good. Ok, where's your form 1 to register your new SBR.
What form, I bought it.
Welp, I lost track of the felonies.
ENTER THE DRAGON! aka the four ATF agents.
PSA calls the ATF. Tells them the story and asks what to do since they're in possession of a locked up unlawful SBR.
ATF says, yeah, we'll come get it.
EIGHT days later an agent shows up, looks at the box and says "Meh, it's locked." and leaves.
Few more come check it out then say "Yeah, we'll send it back to this guy. We're not going to charge anyone."
WUHT? They take the SBR still in the original box unopened and send it back to the FFL with a note not to do that again.
So, curb your paranoia. Unless you're really being an idiot, ATF doesn't care.
