twitchy.com/2013/10/01/surprise-obamacare-health-insurance-exchange-websites-dont-work/I'd like to begin a discussion on Obamacare. I personally feel this is a gross over step by govt. and absolutely no constitutional basis for it. I feel it will infringe on liberty and empowers the govt. to snoop into one of the most personal aspect of the individual, your health and well being. Personally, I've not be directly affect however the VA has told me that they can now divulge my personal health information without my consent to the govt. and to 3rd party entities.

Yup, I got the same letter from the VA As a vet who has been wounded in combat, I'm not a fan of details of my operational background being open to the .gov. Overly paranoid, eh, maybe. Still don't like it. Why can't my private information just stay that way? And yes, our premium and deductible has been raised. I'm under my wife's plan, and it was a good plan. We were happy. Thanks Prez D-bag. Thanks alot. That's a direct pay-cut for us.

Well, it's our private information. In my opinion, that is a valid enough reason to have it private. Apart from that, once they release our records there are any number of entities that can use the information for less than well meaning reasons. If an employer were to see some info in our records would that affect our eligibility for employment? There are thousands of pitfalls.

Ever since this thing was passed, higher premiums+lower coverage, very low or no yearly raise. Nobody I know is digging Obamacare.

Well, I've been on workman's comp for a couple of years now. I got an individual policy from BC & BS of Alabama that is pretty close to what my employer provided insurance was. It's not quite as "Cadillac" as my old employer's policy, but it's not bad (and it's a helluva lot cheaper than COBRA). Anyway, I got a letter the other day from BC & BS saying that my policy doesn't meet the standards of the ACA/Obamacare, so they're going to have to add some stuff to it make it ACA compliant. Basically, nothing is going to change concerning my co-pays and coverage and such, but the price is going to go up from $195 to $255 per month starting Jan. 1, 2014. After seeing the initial numbers of folks with individual policies that are being dropped or are having their co-pays double and triple, I guess I shouldn't complain too much.

I currently have no health insurance since leaving my last job, which I paid thousands of dollars for over the last five years and never used. I'm a pretty big hater of insurance in general, I pay $100 less than I spent on my car every year to insure it, haven't had a moving violation in five years, no accidents in ten, no claims break-ins, theft or vandalism and I still pay 92 dollars a month to drive a 95 Toyota minivan.
I'm basically in the civil disobedience side of things, I will not buy the insurance. Period. I also will not pay the penalty. I know were not supposed to discuss illegal things, but I would rather to to jail without collecting $200 than to buy something I didn't believe in before I was forced to buy it. Modern medicine is a joke IMO, were making the entire healthcare system bottom to top rich at the expense of our health.
I've only been affected so far by debating with a tool who understands that Obamacare was based off of the Romneycare system, yet still thinks Mitt would have swooped down on his winged unicorn velociraptor and saved us all from Obama and .gov shutdown. Thinks "You can't just not vote for either because you don't believe in them." Uh, no, that's exactly what I'm supposed to do. We had a year-long debate about Obamacare and never addressed any real issues such as the Patriot act and NDAA. He obviously paid very close attention to the distractions laid before us to blind us from the real problems.

We've had to go through another phase of selecting insurance plans since my company didn't want to pay the penalty for the cadillac plans. They created a hybrid of the top 2 plans, so I now pay the higher rate for the crappier plan. Go TEAM!!

For some reason I thought that since the IRS was tasked with enforcing this crap that any penalty fine would be taken directly out of your paycheck before it even got to you. Thus making sure that they get paid. Or is this assumption incorrect and I'm mistaken and you're supposed to actually cut them a check? (Key two words are ' supposed to')

I have heard (now mind you, nobody knows what or how this monster is going to work) that they (IRS) can only automatically take out the penalty IF you are owed a refund. Again, no sure about that and I forgot where I heard it. Something to follow up on, maybe? If they expect a check, well, I dunno. I would take it as far as possible before wage garnishments, collections, etc...get involved. Who knows, maybe if enough folks are in that situation and make their voices heard it will make this constitution trespass politically untenable for the elites who rule over us.
Funny thing, my joke of lousy VA care qualifies as bare-minimum coverage. Lucky me?

Since I don't receive a conventional paycheck from a conventional employer I legitimately don't know. It was to my understanding (or lack thereof, this is Obamacare) that it was to be added to anything owed at the end of the year. If it goes like Omega said removing it directly from a "tax refund" then they definitely won't get it. I'm in my 20's, unmarried, and no spawn. I don't get tax refunds. Just the thought of being taxed for not buying something I don't believe in and can't afford makes my skin crawl. That's IMO morally equivalent of paying mob protection or getting your shop busted up by a up by a bunch of thugs.

I was listening to the radio and the local station was interviewing a doctor that worked with Ron Paul. He said in Canada they will not issue licenses to doctors unless they see people in the public medical system. In the US there is no such binding obligation placed on doctors however, this guy seemed to think that Obamacare has some verbiage stating that if the doctor wants to keep there license they must participate in the Obamacare system. In a sense, they are creating positive rights by compelling doctors into a system they may not want to be a part of.

I work in healthcare, and from the inside perspective it (ACA) is causing quite a bit of a mess in terms of the "business" side of general operations. I've seen depts decimated and plenty of outsourcing to 3rd party vendors as a cost saving method. Out lying clinics closing, "Doc-in-a-box" facilities closing, all kinds of cost mitigation.
I am not in favor of the ACA, for a number of reasons, but at the same time I do believe that the insurance industry has created it's own monster through it's methods of billing and segmentation of provider options. I would much prefer a more open, transparent system that fell within the bounds of a free market, but it simply won't happen with the amount of lobbyist money that has a controlling interest in our politics.

That's IMO morally equivalent of paying mob protection or getting your shop busted up by a up by a bunch of thugs. In the case of the self employed I guess they'd just do the same thing they do on income tax. Require that you pay it under penalty of imprisonment. If they do that I imagine that the prisons will become even more clogged. I seriously don't know how any of this will work and is just a guesstimate based of the past actions of the government. If it's a tax where you have to make a decision in order to pay it or not I'm with you. In this case I'm all for civil disobedience and I actually have health insurance. It's certainly not a success and not very many people have signed up for it. Last news report I heard was double digit numbers. 6 people singed up on Oct 1st. That's not a typo, six. In the whole US.
