Have you heard of www.expresspros.com/ ? When I listen to the Sean Hannity Show I hear him talk about it and he does commercials for them.

I'm doing. The severance has given me room to look for a job I want, and not jump at the first thing. Things I'm finding out: *Unemployment is a pain in the rear, I vastly underestimated the intelligence of the people on it. (At least to start it, I'm sure with time it becomes route) *Entry level now apparently requires a Bachelors degree. o.0 *Actually thinking about going back to school, that's still up in the air and needs to be decided. I get dirty looks from my daughter because she's not fond of car pooling to college. *There are definitely jobs out there, perhaps more than there was 5 or 6 years ago, but they are low end. Haven't seen many high end options out there.
Seen some funny things - Looked at a job posting for an apprentice lineman, they wanted the applicant to come with half a dozen certifications and a CDL Driver's License with Air Brake, Combination, and HAZ/MAT endorsements. How the hell is that an "Apprentice" o.0

I get dirty looks from my daughter because she's not fond of car pooling to college. What, she doesn't want dear old Dad to join in with her on the wacky campus hijinks??!!! I'm shocked!!*There are definitely jobs out there, perhaps more than there was 5 or 6 years ago, but they are low end. Haven't seen many high end options out there. How the hell is that an "Apprentice" o.0 Simple. New hire, low pay = apprentice. On a more serious note, is it a union job or a job where there is a union presence? If so you may be (IIRC) running into union restrictions.(Don't matter ya been doing this longer than I've been alive. Gotta start ya out as a 'prentice...don worry none, you'll move up to journeyman when Bobby gets enough hours for his masters certification and opens up a slot. Union rules.)

I'm sorry to hear that LowKey here is hoping for you! I've (mostly) decided to go back to school, I can pick up an associates in aircraft maintenance paid for by the taxpayers. With Boeing starting up big here, this should work. Talked with the wife and crunched numbers and have come up with a minimum we need. Should be doable with me on a part time job or 3rd shift while at school. I'll be compiling a list of things I've learned, here are a few: - The maximum weekly benefit amount in South Carolina is $326 before taxes. - Figure ~250 after taxes - Any money earned is reduced from unemployment. You may earn up to 25% of your UI benefit without having your benefits reduced, but If you have earnings during any week for which you file a claim, the portion of your earnings in excess of one-fourth (25 percent) of your weekly benefit amount will be deducted from your benefit check. (The way I read the above - I can make $87 a week without hitting my UI. :/ Anything above and I lose an equal amount from the UI) - UI pays more than minimum. $326/40= 8.15/hr / Minimum here is 7.25. - After 1 month, I have to accept an offer that meets 90% of my previous pay (I'd jump at this). After 5 months, I have to accept any offer... (Wonder if Carl's vending machines are hiring... ) Frankly - (and the work ethic instilled in me screams at this) I would make more $ (if I was unskilled) going on a cycle of taking a minwage job and getting fired so I could collect again...

Well, looks like I escaped this round of cuts. Lost 5 co-workers from my section, a few hundred from the project. I'm getting too old for this crap.

I got fired last July for concealed carrying at work! Ding ding ding we have a winner for dumbass of the day. Better yet, my S&W fell on the floor, on the clock, in front of multiple people! That was a doozy, let me tell you. 6 weeks later I was hired into management at a rival company with better pay and benefits. I guess what I'm getting at is that sometimes things work out for the best. I sure felt the heat and fear during those 5 weeks, though. I really need to get better about setting aside savings for shit like that, but as you may imagine at 24 fiscal responsibility isnt my strong suit.
Brian, really hope things work out for you. Sounds lame but try applying at Wal Mart for the time being. Overnight workers make close to 12/hr in my AO and you never need to worry about downsizing or layoffs. Two of my coworkers have MBAs and said the job market just blows. Best of luck.

Appreciate it, I'm taking my time, I've got some $ set aside, severance and UI benefits that mean I dont have to jump. I will echo the sentiments of your co-workers, There are plenty of jobs out there if you want to work for minimum or close to it. I actually get a laugh now out of some of the requirements I've seen for jobs, a tele-marketer position that requires an associates, a mechanics position that the preferred qualifications is a bachelors... it's straight up clown shoes. On the plus side, I've knocked quite a few things off the old bucket list...

Had a call basically out of the blue from someone that had passed on my resume' to someone who passed it to someone..... Was looking for someone to do what I used to do back in the days I worked in the plant... chatted briefly, seemed legit, invited me to stop by and speak to him this am. Me being the data miner I am, dug into the name, number etc on craigslist - found the job - Pay was listed as "top pay" 19-26/hr. 40+ hrs week, and some times on call. I get to the job site and speak to the supervisor - pay is 14/hr "What about the craigslist ad?" - "Not sure why the owner put that there, I've been here 8 years and I'm not even at 20." "We usually get 40/hrs, but sometimes there isnt anything to do..." No benefits, 401k or insurance... (Sigh). Well, on the plus side, it was a pretty sunrise this am and I've a serious jump on the hunny-do list...

just a slight thread drift ...sorry....
this is one of my pet peeves... out of all the things school and more specifically high school is supposed to prepare you for, there should be several class sessions on employment law. argghhh!!!! (there should be several classes on how to buy a house and how to buy a car too, but don't get me started).
I finally got a real job after a year from the initial upload to their website, two rounds of testing, an in person interview, initially getting turned down in October of 2013 to getting offered a job in March 2014....then the physical(s) and the agility testing.
It pays well. It has that going for it. But the place and the people....ugggh....it is a soap opera. Lots of gossiping. And ice picking, bus drivers.
Before that I was union carpenter/millwright. And before that I was an officer in the Air Force.
I am 42, so hopefully this new job will take me to retirement.

I've worked in places like that, I've found the best way to handle the drama, is to just sit back and laugh... Once you come to realize how funny it all is, takes some of the stress out... Watch your own little soap opera... lol

[/Lurk] Wow. Just a quick note to prove GM hasn't had me eliminated... 4 weeks or so ago a friend of a friend found out I was unemployed and looking for work. I have a weird skill set that's part of the issues I was having finding work, that made him sit up and notice. He made contact and I'm now working with him (general contractor) In the last 3 weeks, we've worked on auto's in his shop, painted houses and are currently wrapping up a remodel in a business. knock out and rebuild, paint, floors, etc. Money is ~80% of what I was making, more hours than I can shake a stick at, and pretty good environment all around. I has mostly happy. It's reminded me of what I used to like with working on the plant side of things - the ability to sit back after a hard day and see the work you've done - as opposed to just seeing numbers in spreadsheets, etc. It's also reminded me of the reason I went to the office in the first place, I've aches in places I didn't even know I had - lol. But with some of the hours I'm pulling, I'm in active lurk mode - I'm not ignoring you if you pm/etc me, I'm either asleep or working. if ya need me, I'm still here, just pm me - I'm hiding in the shadows (for now) [lurk]
