It depends on what your interests are. Some people are spread out all over the place, a little photography, sports, guns, they own a classic car, or quads and dune buggies, a fishing boat and so on. For me it's just my son, guns, hunting, books and my on-again off-again spurts of working out pretty much in that order. I'm a boring person. I'm betting that you (Nameless) have more widespread interests. It's not a bad little stockpile, but some dudes are blowing me out of the water and sitting on 100k rds of ammo cause they own/shoot belt-feds. Now that's a lot of ammo, especially seeing it in person. I keep setting really high marks, but then I keep shooting it and then it keeps getting depleted. I imagine there's several others here in the same exact boat. --- The place that I used to buy from before Freedom Munitions was Georgia Arms. Was always getting 9 and 10mil ammo from them. They're almost exactly like Freedom. For a bit I wondered if they were the same people. They suffered from some sort of brass shortage for awhile (military surplus brass related I think) and so I got out of the habit of ordering from them and started ordering from Freedom instead. They're in full swing again looks like. georgia-arms.com/selectbycaliber-2.aspxEdit : Well except for 10mil, can only buy the 100 rd lots instead of 500 or 1,000. So maybe I spoke too soon.

Agreed. I worry that I'll miss the boat as I'm currently directing the lion's share of my income towards my land and building a home. Still, better land and a home with no debt and a smaller defensive battery than a large battery and no place to live. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH! I'm LowKey and I can't buy all the bullets I want because instead I'm building the ultimate awesome homestead on an incredible piece of land that most people I know could only dream of owning!

Yeah, I'd rather have land but my wife says she isn't moving to the sticks. I'm sad.

Yeah, I'd rather have land but my wife says she isn't moving to the sticks. I'm sad. It's not the sticks. You can drive out into the sticks. Folks who live in the sticks say that where I live is too remote. Yet there is still Internet service, go figure. I still wish for 10,000 rounds of 5.56 and .308 Did I mention they just put in a "shooting club"; a rifle range, a pistol range, and a skeet range? Talk your brides into it fellas, and head on up.

Alaska is on the short list of places to visit, and since you will be the only person I 'know' in Alaska...

Living in Alaska would be pretty badass. Visiting and going hunting there is on my bucket list of things to do. My wife probably wouldn't want to move there despite the fact that she's constantly watching those Alaska house shows, Alaska the last frontier and a couple others. We've talked about it before, but says she wouldn't want to move there because many of the modern conveniences that would automatically be cut out in many areas. In some places you can't exactly order Italian, Chinese food or pizza and delivered in 15 mins. So unfortunately we will probably never move up there.
I've heard that ammo can be harder to get and is more expensive up there because of the shipping regs with certain carriers and because ammo often goes by ground and they can't supposedly go through Canada. Is that true? Or just web talk and complete and utter B.S.?

Well, keep in mind I'm still in the early stages of transitioning up there... I still live and work halfway around the world.
The ammo thing has to do with hazmat regs more than anything else. Bulk can go air cargo, but on cargo only flights. It can also go by sea, but there is a maximum they are allowed to have on a ship so that cuts back on how much can be shipped in any given month by sea (only so many barges). Finally, it can also go by land through Canada if it's being transported by a bonded carrier in a customs sealed container. (Yes Virginia, the Internet is frequently full of *^&$^)
Long and the short of it; ammo is a bit more expensive up there. If you plan on flying up or traveling via the ferry (without getting off in Canada) just bring what you need in your luggage...quite legal but the allowed quantity is limited. If you're looking to buy in bulk, think pallet loads and share the cost with friends. Forget "small" bulk orders. Just go to your local ammo supplier (grocery store, gas station, ect) and buy from them. They're probably not marking it up any higher than any other goods and they can use the revenue...Alaska is a place where you should try and support your local economy whenever possible so they can support you in return.
