Ladies and gentlemen, we are truely in the Golden Age of firearms right now. Ammo is once again cheap and plentiful and quality firearms are in stock and affordable (seriously, during the last AWB would you have ever expected you would be able to buy a Colt AR at Walmart?).
In the past, most of my discretionary funds went towards ammo. Currently, though, those funds are updating my armory. I sure hope this keeps up for another year or so...

Agreed. I worry that I'll miss the boat as I'm currently directing the lion's share of my income towards my land and building a home. Still, better land and a home with no debt and a smaller defensive battery than a large battery and no place to live.

Concur with omegaman. I have GOT to get off my duff and stock the brass and lead goodness deeper. I fear I'm sliding back into the mindset of "Hey, I'll just pick boolits up next month - - they're everywhere!" That shit vanished in days during the last panic, and there is never a guarantee that it will pick back up again. I might start doing the whole pick up a few boxes of 9mm / .223 everytime I hit my local Rural King. Since that's a few times a week, it will add up quick and be relatively painless.
What I REALLY need, though, is a gun safe. I've accumulated enough serious firearms that it would be a pretty big financial hit and pretty damn irresponsible for me to let a dirtbag come in and make off with my goodies simply because I'm too cheap to buy a safe.

I found Federal .22LR 375 rd bulk packs at Gander Mountain for $22, didn't even buy any as I was there getting some other stuff and didn't have room in the budget for it. A year ago I would have made room to buy it if I found it, but it's starting to be more common again so I might be getting more complacent as well.
In 2012 those same 375 rd bulk packs were $10.39, so double what they are now.

I meant the price now in the second part of the sentence, you get what I mean. The wording could be better.

I have been buying 9mm and .223 in anticipation of election craziness or another horrific school shooting the antis can use to their advantage or some other damn thing. I am going to stock up on G17 mags next paycheck. The main thing I want to do is make sure I have all the stuff I need or think I need so I don't panic and become part of the problem. It amazes me that people who payed high prices for stuff are now trying to sell it off. Keep it. You panicked once. Prepare now so you don't do it again. I think some of them are doing it because it isn't fun anymore. I think alot of the ammo craziness was because for some folks, it was fun to run around looking for hard to find things and a rush when they could find them. I panicked pretty hard when Obama was first elected. I have learned my lesson. Buy it cheap stack it deep.

I guess everyone panics once. I did at the beginning of the AWB in '94 and got ripped off on an FAL. I seriously got raped on an Imbel when with what I paid for it I could have had a Belgian (yeah, it was that bad). Made it through the whole ban off of what I bought though. One thing I forgot was 10/22 mags. After the ban was in full swing I couldn't bring myself to pay what they were asking for Ruger 10/22 Butler Creek mags. Only had two mags through the whole 10 years. After the ban ended it wasn't AK and AR's or related mags that I was looking for, it was 10/22 mags. Ammo was cheaper back then too, wasn't quite as good though. In the subsequent panics the buying has been a lot more controlled for me. I did buy a couple things here and there if I saw them for pre-panic prices, but often it was more to help out close friends or family who lolly-gagged on getting stuff. The AWB is where I came up with minimum ammo levels for 2,000 rds per rifle and pistol for myself which adds up to quite a lot. The arbitrary number I set for .22 LR was 10,000 rds. Then I stack it deep with extra over that and then proceed to bleed it out slowly when it's scarce. I've shot all during the past two panics, but at a reduced rate. I just need to keep going and not get complacent (which I can occasionally start to feel myself doing). For 9mm I almost always buy from these guys ... www.freedommunitions.com/category-s/1823.htm... and then for .223/5.56 I generally mix it around between Freedom Munitions .223, Wolf from SGArms, SSA hunting ammo and Tula from Walmart.

Yeah, I am at 3k+ for .223 and 9mm and around 7k for .22lr. Waiting for .22 to get at 5 cents a round before I buy a couple cases. Goal is 5k+ for 9mm and .223 and 15k for .22lr. Mag goals have been reached for Ar-15 and will be reached for Glocks next paycheck. Gonna buy a few more AR-15 lowers and a Tavor if I can find one for 1,200 well used or maybe a couple hundred more for a safe queen.

For .223/5.56 I have a little over 7,600 rds in my closet according to my much loved log sheet and for 9mm it's actually a little more (9k). Same thing with x39 and .45 ACP. So I'm actually a little below minimum levels for AR ammo. Also going to see all my sisters in AZ today and I'm taking 500 rds of .223 and the same in 9mm and .45 ACP for my nephews to shoot. Have to put in an order once I get back, I feel like doing it now and putting in an order to SGAmmo (that's not a bad deal) but I don't want it sitting on my porch for hours and hours.
(I can delete the talking part if you guys just wanted it to be a straight informative ammo link thread - either way is fine with me. Personally I don't mind a bit of chat, but others may not feel that way)

My totals aren't even close to that Browning. The most I have is .22LR spread out among 4 locations, then .22 Pellets (dirt cheap and light), then probably .223.
