Nice job, open carry douchebags. Another major retailer is implementing a no firearms policy because you shitheads are open carrying rifles and scaring people. online.wsj.com/articles/target-asks-customers-to-keep-guns-out-of-stores-1404311690Maybe somebody with some knowledge of PR and marketing techniques should politely inform these nutjobs that SCARING AND ALIENATING PEOPLE DOESN'T HELP SELL YOUR PRODUCT?!?! On a related topic, I routinely ignore the 'no firearms allowed' notices posted anywhere but government facilities. I'm concealed carrying, so nobody is going to know anyway, and I believe the worst case scenario is I'll be asked to leave if a worker notices I'm carrying. Am I an asshole? I ignore the "No Guns Signs" too. Really, the person who put up that sign is the one being the asshole. Freedom means accepting and understanding all the freedoms. One of my big issues with open carry is your showing everyone you are armed. Bad guys will rob you of that gun unless you're ready to use it. I've seen it happen. Loads of the folks participating in these open carry rallies don't look like the type to fight at the drop of a hat. I'm not that type so I carry concealed.

I like the idea of open carry if the primary goal is to desensitize the general public from an irrational, knee-jerk reaction of fear if they see a person other than LE peaceably carrying a weapon. Depending on the environment, circumstances, and the carrier him/herself it may marginally reduce the effectiveness of carrying for self defense purposes. Just as when a person is being treated with desensitization for any other phobia, you introduce the focus of that phobia slowly and in small amounts and build up duration and intensity over time. Toting an AR-15 through Wally-Word isn't desensitizing people...it's shocking them and increasing the strength of their irrational fear. That has nothing to do with your Rights, it's just human psychology. If your ten year old was afraid of water you wouldn't stick water-wings one them and throw them off a bridge into the Mississippi River, your start them out with wading in as small shallow creek and build up to swimming. Someone needs to explain this to a large number of the open carry activists rather than preach at them that open carry is, "less tactically effective", "stupid", or "just attention seeking". Glad that when I come back stateside we'll be living in a state where both open and concealed carry do not require a permit, and where both practices are commonplace.
