As long as they stand in lockstep.  Might as well figure that most of the business of the senate will grind to a halt. Republicans will hold up the nominations cause noms are liberal. Dems will hold up other business because of the nominations being held up. Wont be pretty and will have a ton of finger pointing... Be interesting if O nominates a moderate or someone close to middle of road... |

The driving-off-a-cliff-national-debt issue isn't even an issue right now, for Gods sake. The kids born after the fall of the Berlin Wall are voting now, the welfare state is brought in by the busload to pull the "D" lever, very close to half the population receives benefits of one form or another, even more than that are paying ZERO income tax. 5 years ago I felt we were at a point of no return. The producers are shackled with 60% of the tax burden while the people who are the takers contribute nothing and a extremely ungrateful for what they have and demand more. That is not a winning combination. They have the debt as a massive chain, endless regulation and now they have the final peg in a 5 to 4 majority in the SCOTUS.
Seriously, what has stopped them. what will stop them now as they perform kabuki SCOTUS dances that will erode fundamental rights. Hey, I've heard this somewhere else. Fundamental transformation? Weird. A padded court is the final thing that will allow them to ram whatever they want through. A "conservative" called Bamacare a "tax". Imagine what a liberal is going to do. Yeah. that right there.
How bad will it get, who knows. Within 10 years of change in Venezuela you can be arrested and charged with a felony for smuggling powdered milk. You can't get TP for your bung hole. So, when will we be there? 20 years. Maybe less.
This was designed and implemented as a slow speed earthquake of epic proportions. Complete transformation while anyone hardly notices because we're conditioned to pay attention to rapid changes.

Well, what happened with the clearly unconstitutional Obama care? Upheld as a tax. We won on guns though! Well, umm, you think that's not going to change or matters to them. They saw you coming a mile away and you aren't a threat to their power structure. Elect a majority in house and senate? Doesn't matter, they'll pass a budget of another 3 trillion in debt.
I'm not even sure why I bother. It's inevitable. Thanks Founding Fathers, it was a really good idea, it was great and did the most good in the history of humanity. But Statism wins. Majority of the world lives under it. No reason another 300 million shouldn't.
What's going to be grand is when they demand "fair and equal" time for radio stations. Then, like the sun rises in the west, they will demand it in churches. No "fair and balanced" sermons discussing the "other" position? Welp, no services then. Do any churches want to lose their tax exempt status? Funny about that, it's weird how so many churches have become nothing more than tax exempt businesses. I digress. BULLSHIT! Ok, they did it in Venezuela with the radio stations, just shut them down.

OK, this story is based on hearing it from another person who was in the conversation.
A coworker (Hereafter referred to as Bob) was spending some time with another coworker (Hereafter referred to as Becky) and her family (both have confirmed this is how the conversation went).
The two couples were sitting around relaxing on the deck when Becky's oldest daughter (Hereafter referred to as Jen) who is attending Clemson (threw that in for OM) for her engineering degree comes out on the deck and says "Are y'all talking politics? I want to join in" and she sits down. Jen says "I know most of you are republicans, why?"
Bob says "Well what are you?"
Jen says "I haven't registered yet and want to see what the two sides have to offer"
Bob "Well its not just two sides, but yeah there are two major parties. So if you had to vote right now, who would you elect?"
Jen "Well I like Bernie. He wants to help with free college which I would like"
Bob "So who pays for this "free college"?"
Jen "They just don't bill for it."
Bob "So, who pays the professors, the building maintenance, janitorial services.. hell, who pays the electric bill?"
Jen "I never thought of that. So who pays it?"
Bob "Well, you and every other TAX payer do. You see you will get free college for 4 years, then they raise taxes to pay for it. So you get 4 free years, then pay taxes up to 25% more for the next 40 years. While a student loan you can probably pay off in 10-15 years. So if after 10 years you are making $100,000, but you wanted that free college. So you now have to pay up to $50,000 in taxes a year which $25,000 helps pay for your "free" college. And you get to help others get degrees in Expressive Dance and Post Industrial French Literature as they become bus boys and master the phrase "Would you like to super size that?" Sound fair?".
Jen "Well no."
After another hour of conversation, Jen gets up to go inside.
Bob "Are you coming back out?"
Jen "No thanks. I don't need to hear any more. Republican it is."
