I have been a Sig fan for a while now and have been lusting for a P226 ever since I first shot one. My dad is a cop and carries Sigs and Glocks and that was what I learned to shoot with, I always was more accurate with the glock but I always liked the ergonomics and trigger of the Sig and I think my P226 is going to replace my Glock as my go to pistol if I shoot with it enough.
I picked up this P226 Extreme from the PX here after debating getting a CZ 75 Sp-01. I have heard great things on the CZ 75 but it didn't have the de-cocker and I am not a fan of how small the slide is. I am used to the wide and tall slides of Sigs and Glocks.
This model has G-10 handles that look and kind of feel like micarta to me. The handle is really well designed with just enough stippling and texture for a solid grip while being aesthetically pleasing and not too aggressive in texture.
The Sig night sights that come on this are awesome and are the type designed to catch on the side of a table or boot to cycle the slide if you can't use two hands.
Has the Short Reset Trigger which hopefully improves my accuracy and speed, the long reset on Sigs without this trigger system was very noticeable for me, especially after shooting a Glock. I think this may be a factor in being able to shoot this better than my G19.
The Nitron finish looks very impressive and I have no doubt this is a gun I can pass down to my son many years from now.
The only durability concern I have is that this has the aluminum alloy frame, the Sigs I grew up with had steel frames and I assumed this had one as well. Some in the Sig community have their doubts about the durability of the aluminum frames while others report no significant wear. I don't think I will be running mine hard enough to tell anytime soon but I will be monitoring this.
I will be shooting it this weekend, hopefully this is not a Sig lemon.
Do any other Sig owners here have any modification or accessory suggestions? I am going to stock up on Mec Gar 18 and 20 rd magazines and maybe a IWB holster, but besides that this pistol is just about perfect out of the box.
Does anyone here conceal any large frame pistols like the Sig?
