We got socked. There is four inches of snow on the ground and everything is covered in a layer of ice. The roads are nothing but ice. I've heard EMS a few times but generally the world is dead right now. No issue with the grid so far but I'm sure around SC thousands are without power. So, I'ma gonna be calling nin-un-un cause somebody dun stow dah skreet. I be all snoed in, so I'ma gun call nin-un-un and ax if Mcie D's delivers 'cause I be out of food. If dey start with this bull 'bout "We're out of chickenz nuggz" I'ma callin' nin-un-un.

Looks like our area a few days ago.
A firefighter at DFD station 12 got hit by a car on an icy bridge and got knocked off the bridge 5 stories to the road below. Killed him. Pretty shitty.
If your area doesn't normally have snow and people aren't used to driving on it then it's better to not go out unless you have to, not even for McD's chicken nuggets. He responded to a wreck and a passing car that was going too fast for the conditions hit ice and spun out. You can control your actions, but tons of people drive like asses.

Ice down here has taken down a bunch of tree branches. It seems like 95% of them are pine. I drove into work today and the roads were fine. The problem in Chucktown is all the damn bridges. They will ice over and stay that way until the city figures out how to salt them properly or the weather warms up (which is normally what they do). Last night the ice was falling off the overhead structure for the bridges so they closed them.

Yeah, I buy groceries for the week so we could stay inside without going anywhere for about 2 weeks, longer if need be cause I prep. I know of folks who have no food in their homes and eat out every day. Yeah. I grew up in the snow in Maine so this really is nothing but there is no way I'm driving with these idiots around here. Mention snow and they plow into each other in utter panic.

Just for S&Gs I went to the store on Tuesday on my way home. PACKED!! People with carts full of the usual: water, bread, milk. Being a wise ass I got in line with: beer, hot dogs, ice cream, and mixers to make cocktails. Then a guy got in line behind me with nearly the same thing... we just looked at each other and laughed.

Yeah, SC does NOT do snow or ice well. Our power was out for a good while yesterday, came home to find my wife and dog huddled under my expensive-ass down top quilts! Read that over 200,000 South Krakalakians lost power. Really wasn't that bad at my place, cold and rainy--but the tops of all the pines around here were iced up from wind exposure which lead to alot of downed limbs. A neighboring plantation lost a tree with a Bald Eagle nest! I have to go there tomorrow and biologize it.
Anyway, from the prep POV--our camping rocket stoves and jet boil stay on stand-by (we lose power often) for coffee and tea. Yesterday was the first time our water went out, but we have plenty on hand for drinking and washing. We could use some lanterns. Lastly, our fireplace has not been serviced or inspected in quite some time--so I need to get on that.

That's how Colorado is becoming. I can tell we're getting more and more imported citizens every year by how much worse everybody's driving is getting. I don't think people practice and take pride/ownership in their driving abilities around here. Stay safe doods.

Seemed like our main problem in the AUG was branches falling on power lines, roads and homes. I am now considering any large branches even close to overhanging your roof to be a big prep fail. I took down most of them a few summers ago with a pole saw. Once I get a chance I am going to get the pole saw and start trimming trees with a vengeance.
