I have put some thought towards this and have come to a conclusion on two impractical solutions. One is to completely disband the wide array of letter agencies and consolidate them into a single investigative body and severely limit its reach and authority. Basically roll BATFE, CIA, FBI, DIA, NSA, DEA and who knows what else into one cohesive unit to cut down on costs and infighting over jurisdiction. Make a warrant required for any information not publicly available. (Forums, Facebook, ect) From my observations the only reasons we need these agencies is because they exist. If we weren't spying on every ant colony on the globe we wouldn't have foreign bodies that want to attack us based on our policing and intrusive nature. If the government would respect our natural right to the freedom and liberty that the constitution protects they would have a nation of people willing to defend it instead of needing to spy on any possible perceived threat. Putting a stops to wars on ideologies and substances will cut down on foreign blowback and need to spy on and incarcerate US citizens.
The other option is to pretty much go off the grid. No phone, internet, cable, on-grid electricity, credit cards or currency for that matter. Live a life of subsistence farming, land maintenance and barter. Is this even remotely close to legal? Probably couldn't even be a proper hermit these days without pulling a building permit to live in a cave, paying taxes on the cave, having the FDA approve your bartered surplus substance you barter for sugar, soap and tinfoil and ATF asking about the tobacco plants, moonshine still and AR15 (all required for rugged hermit life) for legitimate personal use.
