I'm not surprised. I know Ruger sells a special 5 round mag just for the 10/22 owners in NYC. Even M1 Garands and lever-action rifles have to be modified to only hold 5 rounds. And I believe that the 'smith that does the mod has to give the owner a certification letter, which the owner then has to provide to the proper NYC authorities.

Move it somewhere else, keep your mouth shut and get a criminal and civil lawyer.
Best place to slug this stuff out is in the courts. Don't comply and clog them up. Thousands upon thousands of these cases would do it.
The American criminal system is designed to protect the rights of the individual so much why not use it? Then if you have any grounds to sue the State of NY sicc your civil lawyer on them. That's what they're there for.
Some of this BS disappeared in Canada using this very tactic.
