Why do I feel Al Sharpton's response would have been more strongly worded if the race-roles were reversed. I mean, how many victims have died from this game so far, 3 in the last 6 months? And all he had to say was "this is wrong, mmkay?"

These kids don't seem to give much if any warning...they just blindside you out of nowhere. And yet, how do you even prepare for this sort of thing without becoming overly paranoid? I don't want to walk around with the mindset that any and all groups of kids I pass by might be playing the "knockout game". After all, I live just across the way from a large mall -- there is no practical way for me to avoid walking by groups of kids even if I wanted to. So what is the best way for someone like me (and pregnant wife) to take measures against this sort of thing?

I grew up in a shitty neighborhood and it's just mostly about being mentally alert, not going off into la-la-land, recognizing threats in people and constant body positioning so if something pops off then you're in the best position possible to do the most damage.
These people we're in la-la-land and not paying attention to their surroundings at all. Even though there's a group of young guys right there that are obviously together and that are sometimes ghetto as fuck.
I'm not the police. I can profile and if they look like trouble then I'm going to move away and if they start mirroring my movements then I'll get a hand on my weapon and confront them verbally and go from there.

At the risk of mixing two situations that had little to do with each other, I do think it worked in the shooter's favor that the young man was not killed. I could easily see Travon 2.0 coming from a scenario like this - underage, "minority", shot dead with the proposed victem not having decernable injuries. Oh how Sharpton and the anti-weapon media would salivate....

The victim that shot the guy was actually Black himself.

Didn't catch that, they didn't disclose it in the article I read. Thanks for the info.

I saw the above comment below the news story. While it didn't really apply to that specific story (the victim was black, too), it does seem as if, in general, the media is afraid to point out any potential black-on-white racism. And yet, they are recklessly-fast to slam the gavel if the racism appears to be going in the other direction.
Why is that? Is it because they are afraid of being labeled racist themselves if they accuse a black person of racism? Or is it because white-on-black racism sells more than than the 'other' kind?

Yeah, I think they are worried about being called 'racist'. There seems to be this view held by some that discrimination or racist violence is something that only people that aren't White can experience.
Equal doesn't mean preferential treatment or assigning Whites the role of second class citizens. It means just that, equal. The best man or woman for the job regardless of race. The chance to live decently with some sense of self worth. Some of these idiots need to decide what they want. If they truly want equality then that's what they need to go for, not the shit that they've been pushing for the last 40 years.
Eventually Whites are going to get sick of this role they've been given. Haven't you noticed lately that there has been a tendency to push back on the race-baiters? Nothing stays the same forever. White Supremacy didn't last and racial favoritism towards Blacks, Hispanics and Asians won't last either.
