Damn you MisterDark, Damn you!
Not only is the 2Go Systems 'Trifecta' Bivy good bit of kit, their collapsible shovel is fantastic. A little heavy, but on the other hand I think I could chop a few trees down with it, or press it into service as a trench warfare/urban implement of dismemberment. Can cut paper with the edge of the shovel out of the box, and pretty sure I could chop through a fire door with it if need be.
...only money. BAH!

Okay folks, I'm looking for a little input from the hive mind....
Over the last few weeks I've received a tsunami of stuff towards putting all this together, and I finally had a chance to start putting some of this together. I've assembles the HPG Prairie Belt/Shoulder harness together into what one of you quite accurately described as "modernized LBE", and I've put both my canteens in their covers on there. Now I'm looking at my stainless steel Swedish Mess Kit in it's carry case (a 200rnd SAW ammo pouch), and space available on the belt says to put it smack dab in the rear middle of the belt. Nagging voice in the back of my head reminds me that pistols carried there are reputed to be bad mojo if you fall down due to potential for spinal injury.
So what are your opinions on this? Safe? Acceptable level of risk? Just begging to imitate Christopher Reeves?

Not an ideal location, but probably an acceptable level of risk all things considered. Is there anyway you could wrap it in something to provide a bit of padding if you did fall? Maybe wrap it with the G.I. Wooby, extra clothing, something like that? You could also try to divide it t up among smaller pockets to try to spread the bulk, although I imagine since it is a self-contained kit The large cooking vessel/storage kit is the major issue.

I have fallen a number of times when out hiking. Twisted ankles, bruised shins, sore knees, even cracked a rib once. But never have I fallen flat on my back. I think falling on ANY of your belt kit will hurt, impacting the ground with a mess kit won't be much different, regardless where you put it.
That being said, my belt kit has a big, squishy ifak in the back center position.

You hit the nail on the head right there. It's this thing.....

I'm just trying to figure out if there is a real and appreciable risk of a fall onto it resulting in a, "I can't feel my legs" level of injury. Mind you, I could store absolutely nothing on my belt , slip and fall, and land on a grapefruit sized rock right in the small of my back and still end up like this guy... BTW, if you've never had your feet shoot out from under you on ice or on a muddy slope and landing you on your ass you are either a lucky SOB or you have the agility of a cat. Seriously, I'm not over the top worried about it, but aside from Internet chatter swearing that small of the back holsters should come with a coupon for %20 off your first wheelchair purchase I have no real world grounded risk assessment for carrying something there. If falling on it is about the same as getting struck by lightning fine, but if it's about the same chance as dropping toast butter side down then I might not want to put it there. Where else I would carry it I'm not sure.....it would be rather awkward as a cod piece.

Have your wife carry it for you - - it's going to be used for cooking, isn't it? Besides, based on your various descriptions, she is evidently tiny enough that she would drift slowly to the ground like a piece of paper if she fell, no hard landings for that one...
