Shooting at moving targets is hard. Really hard. COM gives you a more "stable" bullseye. Grab hold of the middle of a pencil with your thumb and index finger and rock it back and forth. Notice the distance traveled between the eraser and the middle where you are holding it. A body is doing something very similar to this while moving with the head at the end of an axis. Is this the best comparison, no--but, it is just what comes to mind. Now, a couple of quick chest piercings tend to get someone's attentions...at which point can become the opportune moment for a headshot. I guess what I am trying to say, is that is not necessarily the size of the target, but how it presents itself in real-time 3D. Not saying going for the headshot first is wrong, but I see the usefulness in being consistent with COM and follow-up headshots. Another thing to remember, too, is that not all combat engagements or self-defense requires one-shot-drops or dead-right-there. The goal is to remove the threat. Dead, dying, or running away doesn't matter as long as said aggressor has ceased being such. In that regard, guns that have mucho boolits that punch deep holes are moar better (I'm looking at you, .45 fanbois!). Sometimes you just have to keep shooting a shithead. Some of your rounds will be effective, others will not. That's just real life. Other interesting observations I have to share: I have seen more extremity/limb GSWs take a dude out of fight than anything else. Shattering a femur, tibia, elbow, etc fucks you up and you are out of the fight. Done. Same with pelvic shots. Drop like a sack of potatos and screaming--no more fight in them. Good guys and bad guys both. Boolits do crazy shit when they hit flesh and bone. Just some food for thought
