Oh, no. I wasn't meaning that I was waiting for them to be on sale. I just meant in stock. Everytime I've looked they're out period.

I have a couple TT chest rigs that I like, I dont do much running and gunning but they are light, comfy, and durable. One is in ACU that I wear slick when I can get away with it instead of the Army issued riflemans kit. The other is in OD that I threw on a couple of rows of the single stack surplus 3 mag woodland molle pouches, an IFAK, and a double mag pouch. I used to wear this over a cheap condor chest rig (no frills just front and back plates) it was light but it would ride up now and then and was a pita to get in and out of.
I lucked out and found a London Bridge Trading plate carrier on Craigslist an ex Army Ranger sold to me for $100. It was a steal and came with some very well thought out and placed pouches, its ACU but I can always spray paint or dye it. Again I havent really ran either set up hard enough to be giving much advice but if I had to choose one to take to a carbine course or my bump in the night set up (if I felt I had time or the need) I would go with a plate carrier. For me the weight is worth the comfort of the ceramic plates, way quicker to get on and off, and I have more real estate to play around with pouch, knife, etc placement than my TT chest rig. Two totally different approaches to the same question. I think I would have ended up with the shellback eventually if I didn't find the LBT plate carrier.

I'm probably going to go with those AR500 plates and concealable carrier that GBM linked. If I put it on for real it'll probably be because something popped off around here like what happened in Ferguson and I can just deal with the few pounds of extra weight. Will probably get a separate chest rig. Would like to get one of those ones from BCM, but they're never in stock. I mean like evar. What do you guys think of this one? www.haleystrategic.com/d3cr/index.phpI like the fact that both the plate carrier and the separate Haley Strategic chest rig are made to conceal under a jacket. Together under a jacket they might give me that fat man/penguin look, but probably better than trying to conceal SWAT type armor. I also checked out the local Craigslist ads on the off chance that I might get lucky too. No-go.

Yeah, it's the whole cost/weight vs how much are you realisitically going to use it. If I were humpin' all day, hell yes I want the ceramics. On my dime, when the chance of actually having to put on plates is so very slim, meh, I'm going heavy, cheap and lifetime of use.

Holy shit $115 for a Banshee. I'm all over that. Probably going to buy some AR500armor plates first then down the road buy some lighter ones too. Throw the light ones in for courses where I'm not likely to be getting hit over and over. The steel plates are for HD/SHTF but if bugging out on foot is required Id probably take the light plates.
I gotta say I'm shocked armor of this quality is so affordable. I'm not by any means even a little bit rich so cheap is good for me.
