The runners high is more for people who do it all the time. I hate it too. I can get one city block in (about 225 yards) in before I'm like fuck this. You don't have to like it, you should just do it.
If you just absolutely can't make yourself do it just do a fast walk. That's just what most joggers do.

I just fast walk, short sprints and that's it. My knees are screwed so I have to take it easy if I want to avoid surgery.

That interval training sounds like just the ticket. I can handle a hundred yards of balls out running, just miles on end is intimidating and I end up just saying fuck it. Im going to try and get on at least a mild, consistent program this spring hopefully. Nothing crazy, just basic weight training, diet, and HIIT. Anybody done any kind of crossfit?

Crossfit leads to injuries. Just lift, cardio and rest. Let your body run the routine, not some dood pushing you to hard til you vomit.

Not trying to sound like a broken record, but try the 5x5 lifting routine. There's even a free android app for it. Does a great job IMHO on basic strength training / weight lifting.

I just did my first Ju Jitsu? uh Jujitsu? uh Juijitsu? uh Wrasslin! class today. Was fun. I was surprised how tired I was at the end of it. Everybody else was getting ready for cardio kickboxing after and I was just happy I made it through the hour. We did some scrimpin, some reverse scrimpin, found out I suck at wind sprints, then we started working on side control, escaping side control, locking down that escape, then escaping from that. Everybody was nice and helped me out. I think this gym is probably ok. I am going again on Wednesday.

Second class today. We learned how to stop someone escaping with the auto mechanic. We learned some kind of blood neck choke from side control that your opponent would need a jacket or heavy shirt for you to pull off from the auto mechanic escape block. Then we learned how to put on an armbar from the position that blocks the auto mechanic escape. I don't know the terms for much of this stuff.

Taught throws, short and piston punches last night. Did 100 puch ups and started doing jumps. Yupe, jumping up in the air and pulling your legs up as high as you can. Easy you say, do it 10 times as fast as you can. I did 40 last night, uufff...

Jumping rope kicks my ass. Then I started trying to do double unders and that just flat out pisses me off - hoping to get a new, actual speed rope for the holidays. Sounds like you're basically doing box jumps, GBM - just not worried about skinning your shins/tumbling into nothingness if you miss the box.

I went to the Saturday class today. We learned how to put on side control like a boss and if they get their arm out anyway how to put it back with your knee and trap the head. We learned how to do an armbar with your legs from side control and how to do something like a kimora with your legs from side control. It is really easy to put power in those moves with your legs. We learned how to escape side control and go to full guard. I rolled with a blue belt and got my ass kicked. Was fun.

Went to class #4 today. Basically we were just practicing the escapes we learned before which is good because I need lots of practice. I rolled with a female whitebelt today. She controlled me well when she was on top of me in side control. She only made one mistake and that was not putting her arm out to stop me from rolling her on her back. She quickly corrected the situation while I was off balance and mounted me though. When I was on top she forgot to defend with her knees and I quickly mounted her. Was a fun class. Stuff like that really drives home how important technique and timing is.

Crossfit CAN lead to injuries, but so can any other workout program if you get crazy with it. The key (IMO) is to not get into the hyper-competitive cult mode that Crossfit can lead to. I've got absolutely no problems saying "Yeah, I'm not going to try and lift that. Take some weight off it..." or subbing out another exercise with one that is too high impact. If a trainer in ANY program won't work with you or tries to push you too hard, ditch them.

You're also correct it's probably the cult aspect and students accepting challenges that they should probably avoid. There are some excercises that crossfit does that shouldn't be considered however. The lifts give me great pause, especially the one where they squat and then jump to push the bar over their heads. Yike, my back! I stand corrected.
