I puked today. I will try to make it through tomorrow. 1.5hrs+ of PT 5 days a week. I don't know if I can make it. Sure you can. You're probably just not used to the specific things or combos they're having you do, plus the stress of the unknown. You'll harden up to it, and quick. Promise. Just keep at it! Also, puking every time you PT is going to lead to some spectacular nicknames. Keep us posted... ALSO, the frequency will no doubt decrease. There will be too much to do to spend that much time working out per day. This initial fisting is likely because they're trying to A) Make people who just aren't cut out for it drop out early, and B) Put a little 'holy shit!' into everybody, letting you know this is serious bidness and that it's going to be a helluva slog.

Did they make you pick it up and put it in your pocket? If no, keep going. If yes, fuck them and use the anger to push through.
And what Dannus said. At least you're going home at the end of the day, not sleeping on the ground or in the woods. Really, just rehydrate. This is hazing, tell you one thing then do another just to mess with your head. Push it further just so you don't know when it ends. Just like real life, it's not like you can just quit if you puke. Wipe your chin, say fuck that, head down and go.
Seriously, you've puked recreationally, this ain't shit.

^^ What they said. It's probably just the academy's version of hell week, see who breaks. You dont break. We wont allow it.

Red Eyes - Local PD friend of mine pass this advice along: "Don't screw up! The biggest mistake recruits make is going out partying at night. I think they cant go out for the first couple of weeks but when they do it causes them trouble. The PT is not the hard part. I dont think they are even allowed to fail anyone on it." Shes a 15yr officer, I believe...

Just another of the cheerleader squad, Redeyes - get yo'self some! Any discomfort or humility you may feel in this first week will be long forgotten before you know it. Like GBM/DM mentioned before - it could be worse!

I am trying. I am shaking really bad right now and I have other symptoms of pretty bad dehydration. dark urine etc. I have been pounding fluids.

I puked today. I will try to make it through tomorrow. 1.5hrs+ of PT 5 days a week. I don't know if I can make it. That's awesome that you're doing it. Switching careers mid-stream is tough. One thing that helped me when going through Medic school was to just take it one course of study at a time, one day at a time and/or sometimes just increments of a few hours at a time. For almost everyone the lack of sleep was the main part that sucked with that besides it being somewhat physical (we weren't doing an hour and a half of PT everyday) and then being expected to learn a course of study, retain it and then be tested on it. You'd come off a 24 hour shift (where we'd often run calls all night). Then you'd go directly to a 12 hour ER rotation or a 24 hour Fire Dept rotation (where they had you doing all these ridiculous chores much of which was just made up work until midnight on top of often running calls all night). Then sitting in class for 8 hours the next day after that trying to learn the electrical pathways of the heart or something only to start it all over again and do another 24 as the whole process starts over again. You do that for 6 months and you're a walking zombie who can sleep almost anywhere. Just telling yourself ... " Okay, fuck it... I can just stay awake and make it to *THIS* point in time' (lunch, dinner, that night, a scheduled break at a certain point in time during the class or after a specific course/module of training is over with) at which time then you can re-up and commit yourself to another point in time to make it until. I dunno, stupid mental trick that worked for me. I do the same thing in works outs when I'm just starting up again, but before I've managed to reacquire it as a habit again. It's like a mule and a carrot. Also perhaps staying away from the guys in class who are constantly negative and talking about how bad this sucks over and over again helps a bit too.

Shaking hasn't really stopped. Urine is a reddish color now. Not blood, I can tell, just concentrated. An improvement from the dark brown.

This isn't a hell week, it is a hell month and a half. The upper class and the instructors have already told us this. The shaking finally stopped. I had it last night too but not as bad. About 3 hours sleep between the last 2 nights due to dehydration. Sorry guys, I can't hack it. I am done with this class. I am going to get in much better shape and try again later. I didn't take this seriously enough. I gotta make some big changes if I am ever going to be the man I want to be.

It's cool man, don't worry about. Loads of folks have dipped out of a course just to come back the next time. It happens. Next time you'll be well, I remember this, ok, it's not that bad. Ok, this is suck but not as bad.

Part of me rolls the "WTF, dude - ", and the other part of me rolls the "Regardless of MY convictions and ability, it's his body and his decision and only HE knows what's best for both, and clearly his anatomy is telling him that he needs to re-evaluate this choice". So - overall, I still believe that you can/could do it, but ultimately you decide what you can handle (and dark piss ain't something to screw with - the filter's telling you something) and it's a wise decision to pop smoke quick so you don't do more damage than already experienced. Experience, learn, regroup, and kick ass. After all, “No plan survives contact with the enemy.” -Helmuth Von Moltke

So do you have to go through the entire application process again, or is there some sort of rollback where you can stay on the hire list but select an alternative start date?
If you quit the IN state academy you get to repeat the entire hiring process over in your jurisdiction, then hope you score well enough among those testing the next time to get another job offer. It might take years to get back into a class. Might be different where you're at.
