Tony if you are 6 foot 1 then you and me may be twins. I weigh in around 165 to 170 , walk a lot at work and pick up, carry heavy things all day too. I do not work out at all ,and have no work out equipment.
I was thinking of building a contraption that simulated the way we mopped floors at the supermarket. That motion seemed to get most of us a nice 6 pack ab's. Wet mop swing side to side.

Funny, yup just a tad over 6 foot. Do you work in a supermarket? I have for quite a few years now. Kinda nervous to leave it, honestly..gotten a bit comfortable I suppose. Either way it's a lot more physical than people would think, Ive worked almost every position in a store but courtesy clerk (bag boy/stocker) and produce are definitely the most draining.

That is nice. I grew up kinda poor but in a neighborhood full of rich people's summer houses. I saw doors like that when I went around cutting grass and washing cars for pocket money.

Work out like a mad man yesterday. It was inspired by NxP and his fondness for the Landmine. I jammed the Olympic bar into the corner, threw a 45 lbs plate on, did squats, lawnmowers, rotating squats, and shoulders. Wow, I think it's love. Did chest and chin ups too as well as ab V rollers. Then I took my son over to 9rds fitness. They asked me to do a challenge exercise of high knees (I did them Thai style) and when the song said Roxanne, we did blurpies. I was smoked. Then they challenged me again to leg lifts to Sally up, Sally down for 3 minutes. Well, I was smoked there too. Completed both challenges about 85%. Anywho, they smoked me.
AS556, not sure where your motivation point is but find it. Seriously. It's better to start early and maintain than to find yourself with a gut and try to work it off. It's taken me about a year to get back to being where I'm comfortable. Try 1 night a week for 2 weeks, then bump to two, then three. You'd be surprised how much time you find yourself sitting around.

Love me some Landmine. Sort of Clownin' VidyaOh my....subbed-diddly-do. That vid makes me sort of cringe. I know the guy's really into it, but there's just some stuff he's doing that looks like a quick trip to the ER. Here's some stuff that's fun to sub in: straighttothebar.com/articles/2007/10/29_things_to_do_with_a_barbell/I usually do something like this to break up a set if I'm bored and want to cause a ruckus: Either way, if/when I get around to getting a home/garage setup, a landmine will be one of the immediate purchases with the rig - fo sho'! EDIT FOR FITNESS RELATED! So I tossed my old milage shoes - they were funky, and just flat out sucked to run anywhere in for any length of time. I then spent like a WEEK trying to find decent running shoes that I actually want to put some miles in/on. Wearing Merrell Bare series shoes for over a year has completely screwed up my feet - and not in a bad way, but what a sumbitch to find a set of running shoes that will let my feet splay like the Merrell do. I almost went home with a set of Altra's, but my inner cheap and giving them a go for a mile at the store sent me into a different direction. Somehow I ended up with Nike Lunarglides. They fit, love the cushion, and my knees/shins don't give me the frowny face after a few miles. Nike. Who knew...

Yeah, take it slow to start off with. Be really careful of injuries. I tried to do too many Jiu Jitsu classes with not enough rest time in between them and now I have been out for 1 week and will be out for at least 1 more. It isn't serious. Just a type 2 trapezious strain. It scared me when it started pinching nerves though. Most people who do some kind of manual labor have high pain tolerances. If you are hurting tell your ego to STFU and take a couple days to rest.

Alright, which one of you jerks let the word out on my beloved Landmine....
Stopped in the gym this morning and found some curious souls poking about my favorite implement of pain. Showed them a few moves, how to replicate some cable/dumb bell motions (rows, curls, etc) and then gave them the hairy eyeball to scoot so I could pick things up and put them down.
Nah, we had a good ol' time. Yay for folks interested, but boo for competition of already limited barbells.
Also - you can tell it's warming up outside (other than the fact that we're in the 60's last week) - the bunnies are showing up to get their swimsuit body's prepped for spring break. There's been a large influx of "trainers" and "trainee's" also - it's weird. Used to be me and two other dudes at 0600 - now it's like 10 folks milling about between treadmills and machines. Thins out after a half hour, but still unusual to me. Ebbs/flows and all....
/Motivation
Tony - get off yer ass and DO SOMETHING. Don't think about it, don't analyze it, don't make excuses - DO SOMETHING. Go ruck 25# a few miles and come back when you've made a decision...

Well I rucked probably about that a month or so ago, I posted a few pics with my dog. It felt great! I especially liked doing it outdoors. My apartments have a gym (that we pay membership for) that, I shit you not, I haven't stepped foot in since we moved in two years ago. Guess I need to stop being lazy. I think I may need to evaluate my drinking to get ahead on my fitness and heath. I don't drink to excess or even get drunk really, the problem is my standard routine is to grab a beer after work and once I drink there's no way in hell I'm going to work out. I may need to dedicate a few days of the week no drinking so I can hit the weights a bit. I just can't stand running..hate it. Ill try and get my cardio through hiking..might grab a bike off CL. Well see.

Well, I'm down to 187lbs from the 212lbs. I weighed in at last summer. I think I'll try to get down to the 170-175 range.
Tony, start now and never quit. Middle age runs up on you lile a cheesy 80's movie ninja sprinting up from behind. Fast and silent- and then you're slower, fatter, and tired and your body just won't bounce back or respond the way it used to. And start watching what you eat. Pay the extra for food that's as close to home grown as you can manage. Don't run crap fuel through an car you want to keep for a lifetime, capice? Bunimiyich?

I hate running too, Tony. The ONLY reason I'm stepping it up this year is due to a throw-down from my younger brother. Like hell I'm gonna let him drag me around a 26.2 and giggle. Truth be told, I'd much rather be on a bike. Any kind of bike. Running on the road just flat out sucks, IMO. Still, pride is a motherfucker.
AFA the beer thing - let me tell you there's nothing more awesome then having your ass kicked by heavy things and then cracking open a nice frosty pilsner. I love me beer, but I also keep it in check. A couple on the weekends, maybe one here/there during the week with a meal, but I try to aim for lower/NA beers as much as I can. Alcohol = calories, keep 'em down and you can enjoy what you want without feeling like you've gorged on a few loaves of bread.
Why aren't you out rucking right now.... Go. GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO

Ran a mile. Did 125 push ups, 125 situps, did 45 squats on the landmine @ 35 LBS. Benched 4 sets starting at 135 to 235lbs. Did 3 set of chin ups @ 8, 7 and 6.
SMOKED.

Cut up and moved like 3 tons of pine. Also smoked. I don't care who you are, that's work right there. Every spring we head up to the farm and drop a bunch of trees for the land owner's woodstove for that following winter, and it's a whole weekend of suck. Dangerous suck, IMO. Being tired with a chainsaw and pneumatic splitter is a dandy way to get hurt in a hurry. We try to rotate through so not one guy is doing all the chainsaw work vs dude in a bobcat dragging, etc. Even after Ma's lunch/supper and a case of BL, you feel it for the next week. Anyone that logs full time has my respect. Today was supposed to be a rest day. Jr decided 0500am was a great time to get up and make sure Mrs and I were up too, I let Mrs head back to bed and I punted Jr downstairs to the couch, PBS Kids, and some juice/breakfast bar. Rather than camp out on the couch, I figured what the heck and headed to the gym. Kettlebells, or why did a bunch of drunk Ukrainians think flailing weights around was a good idea... I did this for cardio, so adjust weight depending on level of smoke you want to do - AMRAP @ 30min 10x twohand swing (use this as a transition or if you get tired between motions) 10x right swing 10x left swing 10x two hand swing 10x clean right 10x clean left 10x windmill right 10x windmill left 10x twohand 10x goblet squat (go deep, you!!) Rest out 1min and continue the fun! Later tonight it's 2.5mile for time. It will be a sad time, both in the sense than I'm not looking forward to it and the time will suck most likely.
