Yeah, I like honest after-action reports.
States in plain English what they did well on and what they need to do better on.
A lot of this stuff doesn't apply to armed civilians, but some of it does. Most of the time we'll be performing a fighting withdrawal and trying to leave the area rather than going forward. However I can see a few scenarios where someone might just say fuck it and go forward in a balls out attempt to buy time for the wife n kids to bail and get the fuck out of the immediate area.

I think the infantry types refer t that as, "Hey diddle diddle, straight up the middle". Truthfully though, if I were in the position of needing to draw fire away from the bride while laying down some of my own I'd actually be doing my best to get the bastards attention, move off the line from the wife so she's not in the bad guys "backstop", and reminding myself that unless he gets a CNS hit I'll be in the game long enough to smoke his ass. If shits gone that pear shaped....making sure wifey is safe trumps me covering my own ass. Then I pray the local meatwagon is driven by a part time NASCAR driver and just happened to have a thorasic surgeon along or the ride. |

It's supposed to be harder to get shot if moving diagonally or laterally anyway. Good luck on having any doc doing a ride along much less a thoracic surgeon. I've only ever had one doc (our medical control) do a ride along ever for a measly two calls ever. That would be likely winning the gunshot wound lottery.  |
