And as556, it's not that they are intolerant, they are violently intolerant of other views. And there the rub. Also the far right tends to get a little iffy as well. I feel MOST of America is pretty laid back, but are forced to curtail to a particular ideology to get the little bit of legislation they do want, passed. "Want to drop that speed limit to 35? - OK, but you have to vote with us requiring a sweater for each gun to make them look less scary"

Reminds me of something a friend's Dad once told all us sixteen year old boys: "No matter how fine a woman is, somewhere there is a man who is tired of her shit." Man robs Kansas bank to 'escape wife'
www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38735358
Lawrence Ripple robbed a Kansas City bank, last September, and then waited in the lobby until police came. He told investigators he would rather go to jail than live at home, and now faces up to 20 years. His wife accompanied him to court, but has not commented, reported the Kansas City Star.
Mr Ripple handed the bank clerk a note, demanding cash and warning he had a gun, according to court documents. He was passed nearly $3,000 (£2,400), but he did not get far. In the lobby, he stopped, took a seat and told the guard he was the "guy he was looking for".
Mr Ripple had also picked a bank with a police station on the same block. A police statement said that Mr Ripple had an argument with his wife earlier in the day.

I have a co-worker* who relishes trying to find flaws with or mistakes made by Trump, who will jump on the tiniest of errata as if in doing so he can somehow prove that Trump is or will be a failure as a President. I would say he's the bad half of that saying about Trump, "His supporters take him seriously but not literally, his detractors take him literally but not seriously", but I've come to realize that's not true. My co-worker takes Trump seriously, it's just that he doesn't want Trump's stated goals to come to pass. What's worse for my co-worker, I believe, is that he's seeing Trump succeeding and moving towards those goals on multiple fronts without any serious errors. I think this frightens my co-worker, for if Trump were making any serious mistakes he could be written off as ineffectual. That's what's driving my co-worker, and dare I say most other liberals, nuts.
From what I'm seeing, Trump is doing what I expected him to do with about the same performance I expected. Finesse isn't his strong suit and so he's not trying to use any. He's pushing things forward and getting the ball rolling while accepting that some things will need to be tweaked or revised further on down the road, seeming to know that the perfect is the enemy of the good. All in all I'm feeling more optimistic about his presidency than I did during the race. I'm not a "Trumpkin" by any stretch of the imagination. I'm pretty sure Trump has his own share of skeletons in his closet, that he has myriad flaws, and may be fairly crude from time to time....and none of that matters if he does the job he's been hired to do faithfully, something that he seems to be doing so far. I suspect his business background, as opposed to the government service background of so many other Presidents, may be a strong factor in this as I think he views the role of President as it should be viewed. As the chief Executive officer of the United States. Not the Commander, but the Executive. XO not CO. The CO of the United States is/are the citizens and as XO he's just carrying out their wishes, not his. And I think deep down that freezes the blood of and scares the piss out of the progressives and everyone out there who wants to be able to use that office to force the rest of the population to live and think as the progressives deem fitting.
*British, claims to love capitalism when it's making him money but wants all the socialist safety net stuff for himself. Never misses a chance to snidely insult the US but is thrilled to be paid by the US govt. Total hypocrite, closet progressive. He's a great reminder to me of what the US might end up with if the progs ever get their way.

I'm not a Trump fan, for a variety of reasons. BUT, you can tell the powers-that-be are genuinely upset over the stuff he's doing, which tickles me. Also, is it not hilarious that all the 'important people' in Washington seem to be basically spinning in circles because, as LowKey says, Trump is doing EXACTLY WHAT HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO DO IF ELECTED PRESIDENT. A politician who keeps his promises (good or bad) is such an outlier that people are utterly flabbergasted. Pitiful.
ALSO, at some point we're going to need to start a separate thread discussing this 'fake news' thing...

I like Trump a hell of a lot more now than I did on the campaign trail. I honestly think so far things are going swimmingly.
Is he crude? Sure. I bet a lot of us are. I am. You need someone like that to counter the overwhelming push from the left towards political correctness.
The one thing I wish he'd do is stop tweeting. That's something teenage girls do.

I like the tweets. Speak directly to the people. He's got shit done with tweets. Just another tool in the toolbag.

That's true. A modern fireside chat if you will.
I suppose what I mean is stop getting baited into talking shit on Twitter and saying childish things at times. I've got no problem with him communicating with the people with it, though.

Here's One Poll The Press Doesn't Want You To Seewww.investors.com/politics/commentary/news-flash-obama-was-an-historically-unpopular-president/As President Obama left the White House, the mainstream press was falling over itself proclaiming how popular he was.
"Obama leaving office on a very high note," was a typical headline.
Yet despite the media's fixation with polls, the press completely buried one of the more newsworthy poll findings — a Gallup report that came out last Friday, which took a final look at the President Obama's popularity over his eight years in office.
That poll found that Obama's overall average approval rating was a dismal 47.9%.
Only three presidents scored worse than Obama since Gallup started doing these surveys in 1945: never-elected Gerald Ford (47.2%), one-termer Jimmy Carter (45.4%), and Harry Truman (45.4%).

Oregon has a bill being voted on today that says employers can no longer terminate employment based on off clock marijuana use and also they can't refuse to hire based on marijuana use.
Interesting times. I'm a huge legalization advocate so this is a big +1 for liberty IMO.
