With my current contract ending June 30, they have other work for me but I'd have to travel to MD a few times a year. This is bad for me with the pup and all. So today I applied for another job. I know the PM that is leading it and had lunch with him the other day.
So let's keep our collective fingers cross
Offer letter came in yesterday (it was in my spam folder). So here's the pros:
- Significant pay increase
- 8 sick days (no roll over to next year, boss says he requires us to use these first since they disappear if not used)
- 2.5 years left on contract
- followup contract would be to redesign the front end (user interface) approx 3-5 year contract
- no certifications required, but they help reimburse for them
the cons:
- change company which resets seniority (but then again at the next job i am the project tech lead and future architect, so no biggie)
- lose current company match on 401K since I didn't stay 5 years. New company matches 6-3, old 6-4.
- pay back some of the education assistance I used (about $6k)
- education assistance is $5k/year at current company, $1500/year at the new company.
the pushes:
- 15 days PTO to start (can roll over 5 a year)
- start date ensures no medical coverage gap
- drive is 5 more minutes
- new company also allows flex time, so i can still work 6a-3p
- no travel
My interview was great, I knew the PM and worked with him in the past. His list of questions were:
- How is your mom, brother, and sister doing?
- When can you start?
- How much money do you want?
- How do you like your BBQ ribs? (we were at a BBQ joint eating lunch)
I told my current boss since we're friends and he asked how much to counter? I haven't given a number, but doubt they can even match it.
See, all i needed was a haircut and a shave and jobs start throwing themselves at me, lol.
