Interesting article. I hope it never gets that bad here. Wanting to work and trying to still work, but getting murdered by those who want what you have or in the case of that one guy (the guys eldest children who had kept them awake all night with cheesy jokes) for virtually no reason at all. Interesting mix of things still running, the electricity and phone service occasionally working with some emergency medical care ... But corrupt and/or inept security services and having to use the same IV Cath on multiple patients. Pretty much the exact definition of the shit hitting the fan or post apocalyptic. Dirty, dangerous, loads of stress and little to eat. |

I'm pretty sure flaying "El Beta" alive and leaving the remains nailed to a telephone post would send the right message to anyone else considering piracy. Keep in mind, I'm neither a subtle nor "sensitive" guy and can accept that some might find me less than enlightened. |

That too, but I think that tin-pot dictators and regional strongmen have become such a feature of South and Central American life that it's become almost apart of everyday life.
Its like how whenever the US tries to introduce Western style forms of government down there, in the Middle East and in Asia they go back to the same way of living immediately after we leave.
If it wasn't that murdering dirtbag it would be some other one. It sucks and I believe that the US should help the people out whenever they're down for a change, but we can't go running around being the policeman of the world forever.

Oh, I didn't mean to suggest the flaying of "el beta" should be done by anyone in an official (or semi official) capacity. Purely as a private and individual endeavor. People like to fly to all corners of the Earth as missionaries to bring thier flavor of faith, no reason that individuals couldn't fly in on their own dime to excise a human abscess as a demonstration of their philosophical belief that dirt-bags who prey on the helpless poor should die in agony. |
