Okay, so here's the parts ordered (or already on hand) for the build so far- Yankee Hill Machining lowers (already have the SBR tax stamps for these) PSA unmarked stripped uppers* 8 inch 1in7 SBN CMMG barrels (.300 BO) with Radical Firearms Melonited Gas Tube Bad Levers (I like them, YMMV) UTG PRO 9 inch Slimline Keymod handguards Ergo Enhanced grips 5.56 Full Auto Nickel Boron BCGs I plan on ordering some "Govnah" adjustable gas ports. Not supposed to be required with .300BO, AND I don't have a can on hand yet (approved form 1's yes, time to build the can this trip...no. I am sad panda), but I'm toying with the idea of a 3 setting version; adverse/supressed - single shot (cut off) - supersonic ammo. I'm thinking that would cover all the bases under just about every circumstance. Still up in the air on what to order for the following parts- Flash Hider (maybe vortex, not sure) Stock (I like the Troy, but not the price ) BUIS (I'm thinking Magpul, but boy are they proud of those little hunks of plastic) Optics (I'm thinking 1x4 scope plus a small red dot) Sling, two point type. Single points result in me having mashed nads if I run, and I don't like that. (Vickers and Aries have been suggested). I have a LARGE assortment of various parts that have been sitting in storage for over ten years...long enough that I can not recall everything that I have. I'm pretty sure I have enough parts to build up a half dozen lower receivers, likewise USGI charging handles, ect, which is why I haven't ordered a lot of the little fiddly bits... As far as nicer triggers and spiffier charging handles go, they can wait. I'll have the use of my rifle for about two weeks, then back to the sandbox. My wife will be enjoying hers for a few months, then she'll be headed back over here also so we see no reason to pay a few hundred for glass smooth triggers. Those can wait until later. Also, if we're lucky we may end up with a pair of SU-15, in which case those lowers will be hosting something new... If I can talk someone into making that upper for longer action sizes (think AR10 uppers and the few 30.06 varient uppers)....I have dreams of a .500 or .510 whisper out of this platform. *BTW, what is the fascination with slick sided receivers? I don't get it....

I'm thinking that would cover all the bases under just about every circumstance. Really the adjustable gas block isn't necessary with 300. 5.56, the argument can be made but not for BO. Still up in the air on what to order for the following parts- Flash Hider (maybe vortex, not sure) The mundane A2 is more than enough for this application. Sounds weird but 300 burns powder fast and it's all gone at 9". 8" barrel only needs a mild flash hider. Stock (I like the Troy, but not the price ) LWRC, it's lighter, cheaper and almost as short. I'm probably going to sell my Troy, just isn't what I wanted. It's heavy and the buttstock is small and getting a good cheek weld is meh. It's just like the HK sliders, sound and looks good but in realies, they suck. BUIS (I'm thinking Magpul, but boy are they proud of those little hunks of plastic) I like Magpuls. Troy is good too. Optics (I'm thinking 1x4 scope plus a small red dot) I like the leupolds and HiLux CMR. Redot, look no further than the Aimpoint Pro. Sling, two point type. Single points result in me having mashed nads if I run, and I don't like that. (Vickers and Aries have been suggested). Trigger, a USGI is fine IMO, but the BCM charging handle is a must. They are what's needed to clean malfs and stuck cases. And they're what plants crave. I don't get it.... Not sure on slick sides, I like them but they want 3x as much, yeah, I'll deal with the forward assist. But no dust cover, that's madness.

Pfffttt, I've never shot a target stand. Ever, nope, not ever. Wanna know how to piss off a rangemeister at Hoenfelds? Instead of shooting the "troop" target with your coax, take advantage of all the extra ammo you've been (illicitly) passed by other crews who finished their runs and use your coax as a long distance chainsaw and cut the target supports off...one by one. If you think the barrel you burned out doing that looks hot, you should see the PO'ed guy who has to maintain the range...... Nope. Never shot a target stand in my life!

QD rings with back up irons as with the paratrooper rifle. So, which height did you go for with your mount? I want to do the same with my Millet scope sitting over a buis like that, but I am unsure what I should be asking for in a QD mount. I have seen several tall scope mounts, but they seem Waaay too tall. I'm going to have to do math, aren't I?

Okay, WTF is it with Foliage Green. Doesn't anyone make stuff in decent OD anymore? IM(NS)HO, Foliage Green doesn't blend with anything other than other crap that's been manufactured in Foliage Green. In fact, I can't recall ever seeing any outdoor plant life that had foliage in that that shade of green.
Dammit.

Mr. D I use high ARMS rings. All mounts for the AR should be high. The burris or millet should be high as well. I don't get foliage green either. More of "the color works great in the labs and the Sims" but horrible in real world. Give me OD green. You'd think war gamers would have learned that war gaming is just that, games. http://instagram.com/p/2ymkffA0jV

Okay, WTF is it with Foliage Green. It's usually 30% or greater less than the other colors available. That was the reason given to me by a buddy who bought a Magpul stock set in Foilage Green. All about the savings. He then bummed the last part of a can of Alumahyde FDE that I had sitting in my garage forever and painted the thing. All about the savings. Thought they discontinued that color. Guess not.

I have one Scout model (single bolt/throw lever) and one Recon model (two bolts/throw levers)...they aren't the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. ADM Scout mountADM Recon mount

Oops. Guess I'm not quite sighted in just yet... How far away and with what? We're flooded in, no shooting this weekend. With the 6.8--and too close to blame anything but the nut behind the trigger. Boresighting got me close, but shooting offhand in the wind is not the way to dial it in--did confirm that it feeds and cycles right, at least. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I can take it to the bench and zero it properly here in the next few days. ...it was a lousy target anyway--didn't swing for anything. 5.56 and 6.8 zip through, and the darned thing didn't even move a bit. It got what it had coming to it.
