Well, better in terms of running it in an AR--cause I already haz one, better in terms of maybe I'll get a can someday, and close enough ballistically that other than cheaper boolitz, it doesn't offer me a whole lot of advantages. Except for AKs being fun and stuff. Yeah, I hear ya. The .300 Black does offer some advantages, most of those revolve around being in the AR platform and using domestic ammo components which both give some accuracy advantages over both the AK and ammo mass produced at Tula or Ulyanovsk Russia. If you want to be able to mount optics, mount a suppressor and put all your rds in exactly the same hole the AK, SKS or VZ-58 probably isn't going to be your choice. Depends on what you're doing with it. If someone is just using an AK or an SKS as a ranch or farm gun that rattles around in a truck all the time, is cleaned little, but is still able to shred an aluminum can at 100 while spending $225/1000k that's probably good enough for most uses. That's all I'm saying. It does offer some advantages over the x39, but you'll end up paying quite a bit for those advantages and it doesn't hit quite as hard and isn't quite as readily available.

I'm going out on a limb and say the 300 BO in the AR-15 is the modern version of the Wermachts Sturmgehwer. WHAT, BULLSHIT! No, hear me out. It uses a 30 caliber round that is ballistically equal to the 8mm Kurz. However, there's more! It can run 110, 125, 130 and 147 gr super sonics. 110 being the best of them at 2400FPS out of a 16" barrel. That's right on par with the x39 with much better accuracy, easy MOA gun with the ability to run sub sonics with a mere swap of ammo. It can run AP bullets too. It will mount any and all optics. The barrel is free floated which aids in cooling, accuracy and the handguard will never over heat like the MP44 would. Ergo are perfect and reliability is very high. So with the heavy 147 gr cover such as walls and cinder blocks can be easily defeated. MY personal version has a Troy handguard, Wilson combat fluted barrel made from 416R S/S, MPI/HPT bolt and topped with a CMR1x4 Illuminated scope. These are all the things in my impression they were going for back then with their experimental rifles. Those being the paratrooper rifle, the MP44 and a few others. QD rings with back up irons as with the paratrooper rifle. Adjustable stock and ergonomics. Fluted barrel with free float handguard.

I don't disagree with any of that--I just don't have any compelling need to invest in x39, particularly since I have a Blackout. If I were to dump that caliber, then I'd probably have to find an excuse to buy an AK.

If I were to dump that caliber, then I'd probably have to find an excuse to buy an AK. I've looked at getting a .300 Blk Out a couple times along with the tax stamp for the SBR and the can that would certainly go with it. It's an interesting caliber. On the other hand I've owned an AK and an SKS since 1990. I'm already set up with scads of mags/stripper clips and a bunch of ammo. Once I started doing the math on how much it would cost my to shoot .30 cal holes in piggies (only quietly with a can on a slightly shorter AR version) I came to almost a couple grand on what it would cost me with stamps, a trust, can, SBR, lower, upper, optic, ammo etc. So I just figured I'd stick to doing it noisily and slightly less accurately with what I had already. I see a benefit to one hole groups with a quiet ' Tick' with a green or red light being capable of bolted onto the gun without major surgery since its an AR and has a rail, I just can't afford a change-over and for my purposes I'm not sure it's worth it. - The .300 BO and the 7.9 Kurz is a pretty good analogy.

Got the Zhukov handguard put on. Diggin' it so far. I don't have any M-Lok accessories, so I just used some bits of rail I had on-hand. Before: After:
